  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Help me understand that in our society of entitlement we have people who are poor.

What is up with these f$#@d-u* "poor people" treads tonight?

The taxpayers are annoyed at their hard-earned money being eaten and shat out by too many human beings that a sensible Eugenicist would have sterilised four generations ago.

cool what in does that mean.

and does it matter?

^ I'm sorry Pete. I've been reading too much Aldous Huxley. :-)

His ideas were massively sensible but unfortunately our world societies have fallen too far into chaos to be saved.

Half of my family is on public aid. It can't be too hard to get on it. All you have to do is become an alcoholic, a drug addict, or addicted to pain killers. They make more money than me on public aid, and they get free health care, food and living assistance. Sign me up.

Aren't the meek supposed to inherit everything?

Besides, who would work the fry station at Mickey D's??? For that matter, who the fuck would eat there?

I understand - there are many abusing the system all over the world. The title of this thread does not make sense though.

I am sorry for you and that your family is on public aid. Keep you head up high because this is this something that is temporary.

the embarrassment should be to your government for not thinking about universal health care.

damn the poor.

Huxley was writing halfway through the Industrial Revolution. So many people were forced off their land into city slums or they had to emigrate. Welfare was run by the churches and small charities.

But unfortunately governments just seem to mess things up when they try to handle welfare. Its getting so much worse with PC, globalisation and the poor people of the world trying to sneak into the affluent countries.

I used to worked in government welfare and I reckon we're heading for disaster pretty soon. We saw how the poor people wanted to destroy our capitalism system on 9/11.

I am actually not in favor of universal health care... It's something on which I disagree often with many progressives. I am actually very -small government-. Nevertheless, I do believe that the government should take care of all under 18 and after that, evolution will take its course. People need to prepare for hard times and stop expecting everybody to always be there for them.....

Osama bin Laden was a prince of the Saudi Royal family... hardly poor and hardly against capitalism.

We had that in the past. You'd find homeless elderly people eating catfood. We decided that wasn't what we wanted as a society.

The poor are only poor because the rich are taking more than their fair share of resources.

The "American" poor choose to be poor. They are mostly overweight and underworked like most US citizens. This is caused by laziness and overeating and too much Fox (brain-dead) TV.

I think that problem lies too much in how we view our family in the states. In many countries around the work, the family is a strong unit that takes care of one another. However, my argument does not mean that I view human lives negatively or that we should just throw people on the door, it means that I believe that our government shows promote fair business practices and encourage (with an iron fist) that people take their lives in their own hands. I am a strong believer in the evolutionary theory and I firmly believe that people would step up.

Some of them end up on People's Court and Judge Judy. There was one woman on Section 8. She was supposed to pay only about $65 per month for her rent. Section 8 paid over $1,000. She couldn't (or wouldn't) pay her pittance, got evicted, and was suing for her security deposit.

Another woman (it's a long, involved story) was supposed to move into an apartment but work had to be done to satisfy Section 8. She moved some of her belongings into the apartment and found another temporary place to stay. In the end, she didn't move into the other apartment, but left her belongings there for several months. After the legal time, the property became 'abandoned' and he sold it to make up his losses. The woman was suing for a brand new 52" flat-screen television and 3 gaming systems and dozens of games, along with many other things totalling her maximum of $5,000.

Neither person won their case.

Sometimes, it appears that poor people are richer than a lot of rich people.

A just society should not abandon people to their families. The idea that "family always knows best" is a myth and a great injustice whose effects are most painfully witnessed in the protective care system for children, where the prevailing philosophy is to "reunite" children with their inept, careless, hateful or deranged parents.

we are on average the wealthiest healthiest and longest-lived that the human race has ever been . The idea of resenting the poor as a parasitic luxury is a little absurd . Funny starvation is never raised as a problem we have to adress , obesity is .

in terms of the expense of social programs , I think the US fairly consistently has 10% of its population in jail . I wonder if that is more or less than is on welfare ?

If I recall correctly the cost of keeping someone incarcerated costs more per year than the median income of a full time working person so... it is definitely a huge cost we don't talk about.
