Well I have been off the internet for a pretty long time but now i'm back. ANYWAY, I use firefox like most intelligent people but I still cant use Quicktime successfully. This has always been a problem, but I dont recall it ever not letting me use youtube. And I am a true youtube lover so this is unacceptable. So if someone could suggest a solution to the problem that would be much appreciated. I dont want to have to download Opera. I dont like how it looks.

I just downloaded the most recent Quicktime and it still doesnt work. I cant use IE because it just doesnt work. And I dont have anything else.

you shouldn't need quicktime to see youtube, you need Adobe's flash player. Do a search with firefox for Adobe Flash and then DL it & install, should work fine after that.:-)

If you continue with Quicktime, open edit, prefrences, browser, mime setting, miscellaneous, then uncheck flash media. I had the same problem with youtube in both IE & firefox and this fixed it for me.

Yet another problem. Quicktime wont stay open. I click on it and it pops up and immediately disapears. SOOOOOOOO annoying.

So I was wondering does anyone know of a good spyware destroyer thats for free. Not with a subscription, or 30 day trial. Free that actually works? I have feeling that is why quicktime wont stay open. I am going to have to spend all of my next paycheck fixing this computer.

"Quicktime Alternative"

Thank you T-rexx and paws. I hope this will certainly fix my problems. Although I must say, I never associated Apple with crappy software. Then again, every company has its bad side.

I've found with a lot of these free downloads, particularly real player, that when you install them, they lead you through lots of things to accept. Some of these need you to scroll down to see them, but you can accept the settings witout actually looking. These often include file extension associations so that the program becomes the default viewer for almost everything. Also often enabling updates over the internet.

It's worth spending a few minutes when installing a prog to look for the scroll bars and options to ensure it only plays what you want it to.

Well I tried installing quicktime alt, and that was glorious, but I am still having problems. I think now there is something wrong with the java script because the errors show up in the java console on firefox. I will try to download adobe flash and see if that works.

*sigh*

Also the banners that contain quicktime now work. It's just youtube. Is there something in Firefox preferences I can change or fix?

Well I just installed Adobe Flash. The install poped up and installed to 100% and just disapeared and that was it. Is that it? 'Cause youtube still isnt working. This is totally pissing me off now.

Another Edit: ok not all quicktime banners are working.

well....by getting rid of quicktime and not installing any such thing...it works. wow if i had known thats all i had to do...i feel so stupid right now

Dont feel stupid, you did what I did, you assumed that when you download a well known app, it will work. It took me weeks to figure out how to solve my problem.

why must we make everything more complicated than it really is.
