Hi, I was wanting to know about the hepatitis vaccine. I don't know much about it and it isn't compulsory in my country, and I think in most countries.

I think that it's available for Hep A & B, am I right?

I wanted to know if it has any side-effects or any other nasty consequence, or if it's painful or anything. Has anyone of you tried it?

Just trying to find out to see if it's worthwhile, maybe there's a reason why it's not compulsory to take it.

Whatever you can tell me about this subject I'll be grateful!
Thanks (*8*)

Yeah you can get both hep B and A. hep b is 3 parts over the course of a year or so, hep a is 2 parts over 6 months.

the shot is very easy if you dont mind needles. the only real side effect is some soreness in the arm for a few days. some sensitive people can get slightly ill after the vaccine briefly. but it sure beats getting hep!

I've had both. As stated, a sore arm and, rarely, some flu like symptoms afterward. I would recommend both if you are gay and doing any sort of rimming. If just gay, then hep B. Hep A also for certain 3rd world countries gay or straight.

i have got an hep B vaccination and in the UK it is not compulsory either. i just had my third vaccine and after a year i need to have a fourth.
There was no real side effects. just try and relax, as when u tense up. it makes the needle painful. i know that is hard. but trust me it makes the process so much less painful.
Don't worry about it. the best thing to do is to have both of them. by the NHS they are free vaccinations so u have nothing to loose (if u live in the UK that is)

Just prior to them injecting I always find it easier to take a deep breath and look away

Hep A & B are required where I am (for public schools) So I got mine while I was in Jr. High. No side effects for me other than what's already stated, a sore arm for a couple of days.

I had gamma globulin as a temporary hep b shot when I travelled through the jungles of the lower Yucatan. As I recall, it was in the buttocks and made me feel sick as I was flying in -- but the next day I felt fine.

I guess the hep b shot is different these days. I was told by my doctor that at my age I had probably already been exposed to hep b anyway and didn't need the newer vaccine. How consoling 8'/.

With all due respect to your doctor ... the only way to know if you have been 'exposed' to HepB is through a blood test...even if you have been 'exposed' to HepB, as far as I am aware that does not mean you are immune to HepB whereas if you have had HepA then you are immune.

No matter who or what you do, I would still suggest to any sexually active person that they have the HepB vaccination
