Hey - think I might have genital herpes. Have what seems like mosquito bites on the shaft of my cock and an ulcer on my glans. Can show pics if anyone can provide advice.
Thanks

There's another current STD thread that discusses ulcerative lesions on the penis. Herpes is one of the possibilities but you'll have to see your doctor to have it tested and to get the appropriate treatment.

Thanks to you who replied and pm'd me.
I got treated for herpes and got the antivirals. Eventually, the blood test came through. It's Herpes 1. The medical people seemed to think that was a "good" result as apparently if if was Herpes 2 it was more likely to re-occur. Anway, the antivrials have helped and on road to full recovery.

That is correct. HSV-1 can be transferred from oral form to genital form by direct contact, however it is less likely to create recurring lesions. HSV-2 has adapted to infect genital and anal areas and is more likely to become a chronic infection with recurring outbreaks.

Why do my doctors note test for Herpes 1 or 2? They tell me that "most people have it anyway, so there's no point in testing"..
Is this correct?

Most people have antibodies for HSV-1.

The test that was done in this case was presumably a viral culture from the lesions on his penis.

Yes, the GUM clinic took a swab from the lesions on my penis. It took longer to get the results ie I had the results for the other possible STDs through quicker. They were negative.
