I have a straight friend who'll I'll call Alan who is very attractive, has a great body, is single and whenever we go out to bars he never ever hooks up with girls. A couple of our lesbian friends swear he must be gay as do a couple other straight guy friends. Im Bisexual but no one in this set of friends knows Im that into guys at all.

Long story short, I've always gotten a gay vibe out of Alan but I just chalked that up to me being attracted to him so.. Then one drunken night while out at the bars and after everyone else went home... he told me he had to tell me a secret .. my heart pumped extra fast with excitement since I thought that he was about to tell me he was gay and that he was into me but instead he told me he had herpes... he explained this is why he hasnt been with a woman in over three years.

I'll have to admit I was freaked out and shocked all at once. I mean he looks perfectly heathy. he says once in a blue moon he has an outbreak in his genital area as well as his lips. He also said that since he is very healthy and has a good immune system, his outbreaks are few and far between and hardly noticeable.

My question is this. what are the risks of contracting herpes from someone.. I mean, I still think he's gay! LOL if his herpes is in remission, can I kiss him? suck him, etc?

can anyone give me advice?

You bought his lame excuse?

Anyways, it depends which kind of herpes he has. I have HSV-1 which is the cold sore type. About 60% of the population has HSV-1 so it's not really a big deal he makes it out to be if he has it. The shocking part about herpes simplex 1 is that most people get it when they're a child.

HSV-2 is the 'sexual' one and about 18% of adults have it. If you don't mind getting the occasional scab on your dick, then I guess it's fine.

I live with HSV-2, and to be honest its not all that fun. I take Valtrex everysingle day to help prevent outbreaks. HSV-2 is sadly becoming more and more common. It is VERY easy to transfer HSV-2. I got it from my boyfriend (well now ex boyfriend). We had been having unprotected sex for most of our relationship, but little did I know he was having sex with other people and caught it from someone. Please Please Please be VERY careful! The guy before me said something like "if you dont mind getting the occasional scab then I guess its fine"...he has no idea how painful those scabs are...I would not wish it on anyone.

maxpowr9 is spot on the most common form is called Herpe,s Simplex and this usually manifest,s itself through the good old common cold sore on your lip,s
and is easily treated by acyclovir.
HSV-2 is the more serious one and please don,t be mislead some of those outbrek,s can be very very painfull.Though this to can be treated but you should never have sex if you are suffering an outbreak. Some great advice here. ..|

Im not sure which Herpes my friend has but I will ask him. He said he got it from his ex girlfriend so I'll assume its the sexual (HSV-2) kind.

So my question is, if a person is currently not suffering from an outbreak, can HSV-2 still be passed on sexually?

Sorry Luv Trail but yep it can still be passed on ,though the risk,s are lower
they are still there. Sorry dude.
