I don't think our house even had a key. I don't remember the door ever being locked.

I didn't get a key until I moved out on my own in university.

I got one when i was 11, simply because i needed one as the house was usually empty when i got home from school.

^^ No, we didn't. I grew up in a small town. We never locked the door even if we all went away for the day.

my parents were constantly afraid that i would lose the key, so i didn't get one till eight.

my parents worked late; so i would have to let myself in the house through a certain window next to the door. thing was, you sort of had to balance yourself on the doorknob so you could reach the window and then pull yourself up.

well, one day, my mom (apparently) didn't work that day, so she noticed me trying to get in. being the good mom that she was; i guess she just figured she would just open the door for me and let me in. problem was, i was balancing myself on the doorknob when it opened and bammo! broken arm.

the next day, i got my own key to let myself in the house.

I was brought up in a village of 1200; we had locks, but the keys were long gone! We would go away for two-week vacations and not bother to lock. We had one cop, Officer Fessenger, but he only worked 9 to 5! I think we were lucky to have had childhoods like that. Now we have to double lock every damned door in the house. I used to love big cities, but as I get older, I don't know.

My parents were the only ones with keys. There was always someone home, so it didn't matter. I got my first set of keys when I was 17 for my own place.

My parents both worked.

I had to come home and cook dinner!

probably around 12?

Second semester of first year in high school. About 14.

I lost my keys like a mothafucka. At least more than once in the first apartment (I had to break in) and at least one time in my second apartment. And that keychain was cool.
