  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Hey gays, look what we are doing today.

Seeing that grill brings back fond memories of the corn my father cooked on our charcoal grill.

Are the aluminum foil packages potatoes? I remember my father doing potatoes when corn wasn't in season.

The previous victim tenant here left behind a charcoal grill. Every year, I think I should use it. But I end up being too lazy, especially since meals are just for me.

For everyone not familiar - the last Monday in May is Memorial Day in the United States.

I'm pottting up several flats of zinnias, begonias, and repotting some of the plants I overwintered. My elephant ears got too large for my planters, so dividing them. Probably have to set up in the garage over a tarp, with rain forecast all day today again.

Also may run the aerator on a couple of bare spots while the ground is soft from the rain. And there's a fern I need to dig and move.

Later, I think I'm goig to see a matinee of Friendship. Not a fan of the blockbusters released this weekend. I like Paul Ruud's sense of humor. He's aging well.

Tomorrow is a bank (ie public) holiday in the UK as well, although not Memorial Day. I think it's what used to be called the Whitsun bank holiday.

After a month of dry, warm and sunny weather, bank holiday rules now apply and the weather has turned cooler and breezy with showers. I have no particular plans today, but will be going out for a few drinks and a meal with the bf tomorrow afternoon.

The real celebration is the month of June. June marks longer days with better weather.
My neighborhood comes alive every June as activity booms at the Bitter Lake Park Community Garden.

Looks delicious.....no joy here.

Got 3.5 acres of lawns mowed today but they look like fucking hay fields and it never stops raining here.

Enjoy the Mem Day weekend!

It was odd. Neither fish nor fowl. Paul Rudd was also a producer.

The reviews credited it with being hilarious. It was a dark comedy. It felt a lot like a 7th chord not resolving to tonic.

Interestingly, I read an Agatha Christie short story a few days ago that had a reference to Whit Monday.

A bit off topic maybe, but I've just finished reading Agatha Christie: A Very Elusive Woman by Lucy Worsley. If you're looking for something to do on holiday Monday (see how I got back on topic?), I'd highly recommend it.

Thanks! Too late for the holiday weekend, since there is no way I'll get to the library today. But I'm curious to take a look when I get the chance.

My intention Friday for this weekend: Get Stuff Done!

So far, alas, the to-do list is about as long as it was Friday afternoon...

Today, I built a firewood rack. I made it 8 ft wide and 4ft tall. Didn't think I would fill it all the way to the top in 1 day with the wood I'd been splitting the last few days.

I've decided to install a wood burning stove for the winter. That's why I'm piling up firewood.

Does that need a roof to prevent the firewood getting damp?

It doesn't need it but I plan on putting a roof over it. I just didn't have my hand circular saw with me so I'll do it later.

Meh.

A tarp over the whole thing is better. Cover the front and rear as well.

Well, considering that in Colonial days, the average household utilized 40 cords of wood (4 foot x 4 foot x 8 foot) per year for heating and cooking, I'd say that you've got yourself covered :=D: Remember that prior to the industrial revolution, wood was the most prominent and available fuel.
