Hey all. My name's Tommy, but you can call me StickShift. I hate short intro's that tell you nothing about the person.

I'm 23, gay and out (completely as of about 6 months ago. Long story.). I'm 5'7, a submissive bottom, about 200 lbs (trying to lose weight), sensitive, cynical, and sarcastic. My family took it well when I came out aside from one family member (an Aunt) whom we no longer talk to. I live with my father for a number of reasons. He has a bad back and hip, needs help around the house; I have no job (looking, had many interviews), and all thing's considered, we're all each other has left. My mother and older sister both passed away, my 2 older brothers are assholes in general (though they were accepting when I came out), and the only other family members I care about tend to live far away.

I am a car enthusiast and will only date a guy if he has at least a basic understanding of how cars work. I've tried dating people who have no clue about cars and it's a massive turn off for me. I enjoy working on cars and modifying my own, and just getting my hands dirty in grease in general. I'd much rather wear grease than make-up. *coughi'matrainedmechaniccough*

As for the screen-name, I chose it for a couple reasons. I refuse to own another car that's automatic, unless I'm converting it to a manual tranny. And it comes from one of my personal jokes "You can't be a proper gay guy until you can play with a stick shift".;)

Anyways, I'm completely new to the gay scene and no clue where to find any gay guy who's even the least bit interested in cars.

Hiya and welcome to JUB

master tech here :gogirl:

Not a master tech yet. Maybe eventually.

You still get shit on by everyone regardless - you just make a bit more. But then you're stuck with the pain-in-the-ass jobs that no one else 'can' handle. Like I said, you get shit no matter what.

Do you work for an independent or a dealer?

currently looking for a dealer. I have an ASE certification in A/C, and that's it.

Best to start as a lube tech. Make sure it's not a dealer that is a glorified goofy lube that happens to do tires. Avoid the low-lines. VW is a nice place to start. Their cars are fubar, but that's job security I guess  This can open windows into Audi and I know the journeymen can make up to $40/frh

I have an interview this Monday with Subaru... as a salesperson. At this point, a job's a job. Every place I go to apply as a tech is either not looking or looking for someone with more experience and won't give me a second glance. It's beyond frustrating.

You're a better man than I. I could never deal with people buying a car. I'd probably be in jail after a week because I killed someone.

Plus the cost/benefit ratio is shit. I've seen salesmen spend 4 hours trying to close a deal and they get a $50 mini. Poor guys.

Keep this in mind, though: in new car sales, it doesn't matter what you sell it for. You'll get a flat $x per vehicle then usually a bonus if you sell over x, y cars. So when people keep wanting a lower price, don't let it bug you. Go to the manager and have him sign off. If the clients are being unruly, T.O. to your manager.

Keep-up with your follow-up calls, log them in the CRM - your managers will micro-manage when you're not making the calls.

I know the life of a car salesman. I used to sell classic muscle cars. Just a few examples...

^ now that's a sales job I could handle. I would assume those interested in such vehicles know a bit about the cars and the sale comes easy when someone is emotionally involved.

the first pic if of a 1969 Dodge Coronet Ramcharger Superbee with a 383 bored over by 0.20. Second pic is a 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 421 big block V8 with a 6 pack (for those that don't know, a 6 pack in this case refers to the cars 3 2 barrel carburators). The third pic is a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette that had been built up by a speed shop. The engine was originally a 350 small block but was bored and stroked to a 427. The car makes over 600 HP and even has a 6 speed manual.
