  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Hey sissy fags, think you can actually act like a man? Audition here

"This is Reality TV but you will be acting as straight as possible."

This line is very demeaning. I don't understand why so many who have responded to MattieMich's original posting have been so vindictive.

Translation of that line: Gays have feminine characteristics which they need to hide to the best of their abilities - and the "as possible" end implies that no matter how good you "act" that there will always be that little hint that will give you away. Bull hockey!

We all know that gays come in all shapes and sizes. That's why, for example, Rock Hudson had the kind of career he had - there were absolutely no "gay" characteristics in his manner whatsoever.

Well, they do say that the leopard cannot change its spots.

Presumably, they want you to try very hard to not ogle other guys who might be in the area on the date - the waiter at your restaurant, perhaps. And to try generally to behave like a straight guy might. Perhaps kinda nervous about the date - it would be a first date, probably - and a little shy about meeting the girl and everything. It's all in the body language somewhere.

I really don't find it that demeaning at all, I have to say.

The only thing they'd have to pretend about is liking a girl. The idea behind the show is that the guys on the date have to be "acting" because they couldn't possibly be like that in real life. "That's how straight guys act!" It's not showing that we are real and not all stereotypes. It's not showing that our only real difference is what we like to do in bed. If it appeals to you then enjoy. I'm not excited by the idea of another show presenting us as stereotypes.

Are they presenting us as stereotypes? The whole idea is that a panel of experts has to spot the guy playing it straight. Just the notion that there is a whole panel of experts implies that it is not going to be a case of "it's definitely that guy - he is soooooo gay" like you get after exactly 3 seconds of Queer Eye.

If anything, people watching should realise that in fact we're not all stereotypes - assuming the producers don't pick the most obviously gay guys out there to be on the show, of course

I can't wait for a follow up show where black guys pretend to be white.

'Now try not to be too black guys!'

Actually, I heard about a reality show where oriental men are forced to act Caucasian while eating roasted cockroaches on the beach of a deserted island.

They're calling it "Sulvivol Irand". :p

And Now Mattie Mitch has run away. Shame It's good to bring up controversial subjects, it makes the place more interesting. :(

Matt,if you're viewing,I don't know what caused you to leave....but you contributed very much in your short time here, and if you don't do the trend du joir and return after a little bit, you'll be missed.A couple of asinine posts from people who should have thought a hundred times before pushing submit doesn't diminish the fact you did contribute and you were always interesting and a damn good writer.I think you were dead on about with this thread, how contemptible and cynical people in the entertainment industry can be trying to find the next big thing.....when all they do is variations on themes that have been sucked dry of originality and relevance a long time ago.

Sorry to see you go,Matt.:(

There's already a show coming out (I forget which network) in which a woman dates a straight, available guy, a straight married guy, and a gay guy. She doesn't know which is which and she has to pick.
