First I must say that I'm not a newbie, because I've been here for a while. However, before JUB was blocked by the Great Firewall of China, I never saw this section, and now here I am again, having succeeded in "climbing over" the Firewall, I believe I should introduce myself properly this time.

I was born and raised in Harbin China, and I'm 20-year-old sophomore majoring in French. I once wondered why I loved watching boys and cute guys on TV when I was still in kinder garden, but I didn't know anything about homosexuality then. During junior high school, I started to learn more about it, and finally confirmed that I'm gay.

Unlike some of the Chinese gay guys, I don't think I have a problem accepting the truth, I'm already out to my best friends, but of course not yet to parents. That might be because that I'm deeply influenced by the western culture, which is more openminded. I love watching movies, especially American ones, besides that, I seldom listen to Chinese music. And you can even tell that I'm gay according to my taste for music, I love latin, pop and R&B, Shakira, Beyonce (I asked for a 3-day leave to go to see her concert, when The Beyonce Experience stopped in Shanghai.) and Christina are my all-time prefered artists, for male artists, I recently listen to Maroon 5 and Ricky Martin.

I attached a photo of me with this thread, yet I don't know if this link could work when I'm writing. If it won't work, I hope someone could teach me how to upload a pic. Well, to the point, I haven't had a boyfriend yet, because Chinese guys are really not my type, I've tried with someone, but things just wouldn't work out. I'm very interested in white guys and latin guys, though. I prefer to have a boy who's a little older than me, for I believe my being gay is probably because of lack of brother figure---I'm the only kid of my family.

Now, I'm planning to study in the US, and if everything goes smoothly, I'll probably leave in Aug, so I hope I would know more American guys here before I go to the States.

Ni hao VanHiscers ;)

Welcome to JUB! I also went to the Beyonce concert in Shanghai. It was amazing :) I work and live in Shanghai... Well, at the moment I am in Europe , taking an extended vacation, but I'll be back in Shangers in about a month.

Good luck with your plans to study in the US!

salut
so est-ce que tu es fluent en français?

Je ne suis pas très fluent quand je parle, mais quand j'écris, pas de problème. Est-ce que tu viens du Canada? Ou tu as étudié le français comme une langue étrangère?

Thanks a bunch.

You live in Shanghai? That's cool, Shanghai is a far better city than my hometown, there're a lot of cute foreign guys there, and I've seen a lot of them during the concert.

Welcome back VanHiscers, i remember talking to you during your previous membership.

Glad you made it back.

So, whats the score with China Vs Tibet?

Just wondered what the news is on the inside?

I only heard about violent conflicts from the media, and my government has ralate it to Dalai Lama...blah, blah. You know about Chinese media, right now they're avoiding to report everything serious, from Tibet problems to Taiwan affairs. I've also heard about rumors, but couldn't tell whether it's true or not.

So I believe I should get some news from outside the country. However, no one has post anything about Tibet or Taiwan.

VanHiscers, your English is very good.
After you come to the US, you will have access to a lot of news and you will learn a lot. It's hard to explain the Tibet, Taiwan issue on a gay forum, too complicated than the media says. It's better to talk about hotties here.

please continue to share with us things about China, as our knowledge is so limited about your country.

i do hope you get the opportunity to travel and study in the states. i think you will enjoy the experience very much.

do you have any idea what schools you might be applying to and where they are located in the states?

Actually the application has been done, now I'm expecting the letter of enrollment. The university I applied for is California State Uni---East Bay, it's located in Hayward CA.

Ahh, Hayward. An expensive part of the country but everything is close together.
And unlike much of US there is a lot of public transportation.
And you can always probably find someone who speaks Chinese if you need to.
A good place to learn things that haven't even been invented yet! ;)
Welcome to JUB!

This is one of the top intro's ever on JUB.

I wish you all the best, on this site, and on your future endeavors in the US and elsewhere.

Just want to say, welcome to our world!

A lot of public transportation, that's cool, but I hope it's also convenient to go to some other cities of California from Hayward, esp. SF & LA. I heard SF is very gay.

^ You can take BART..which is a subway from Hayward to San Francisco. To get to LA it would take a 5 hour plus drive or you can fly from Oakland to LA.
