High school classmates ...

I'm at college right now ... but during the years after I left high school ... I've heard from friends that at least three guys who I went to school with have come out ...

at first I was shocked ... but sometimes you have a premonition ... a gut feeling that they liked guys ...

i dunno ... but it's cool ... i just wanted to share ... it was just interesting because sometimes you would have never thought that a classmate would like guys ... maybe it was because everyone whom students suspected were gay ... always denied it ...

anyways ... i wonder if anyone else has found out that people they have gone to school with have come out too ... please tell ...
 
Since graduation, have confirmed that 5 of my high school classmates are gay, including me would be 6. No surprise I suppose considering it was an all-boys school :twisted:
 
I know of one other guy from my hs class. I can't say I would have suspected it, but once I found out it was like yeeaaahhhh, that makes sense now.

I haven't been following people in high school, let alone who came out and who didn't.

Regardless, I was closeted in high school, and I had a major crush on this guy who was a close friend. Two years later after we move to different sides of the country (and after I got kicked out of the house by my mom thus changing my summer destination) I found out my high school crush was gay via facebook.

As a representative of the generation before you, I can say that it's pretty common in my age group that people didn't "come out of the closet" until after high school. BTW, I graduated in 1981.

Times (and attitudes towards gay people) were different. I know of at least a dozen (including myself) people in my class of over 600 that didn't come out until after high school. If you go by the 10% rule, then there must be at least 60 gay people in my graduating class.

I think today's gay teens who live their high school lives out of the closet are incredibly brave. While attitudes have changed for many, there is still an element out there ready to put down anyone different (that element has always been around, even in my high school days). Just knowing myself, I don't know if I could have proclaimed my sexuality to my peers while in high school....
 
off the top of my head, i can count 9. 6 of them graduated in my class. 3 in the next class. i still run into most of them. a lot of them went to the same college as i did.
 
Nope, haha. I never got the vibe from anyone else during school who wasn't already out. I do kinda wonder about a friend of mine, but I have no real strong feeling about it.
 
One guy in high school figured out what I was before I did. He was the nicest and probably best looking guy in the class. I'm sure most everyone knew he was gay, but I had no gaydar at the time. He often invited me over to his house, but I was usually too busy to go. Only if I had been a little smarter back then.

For our class reunion, they asked us to fill out a "what's going on in your life" blurb. One guy wrote about what was going on in his and at the end he wrote "oh ya, I'm still gay." I bet that was news to everyone in the class, but a good way to avoid awkward questions at the reunion.
 
I know of 3 off-hand (1 lesbian, 2 gay men not including myself) out of our class of 300. One guy is a friend of mine. We were much closer in junior high, but still occasionally hung out in high school. I was convinced he was gay even when we were all back in high school, but he didn't come out until a few years after graduation. I remember once the light bulb burnt out in his bedroom and he decided to just keep using the candles he lit indefinitely because he liked the ambience better. The other guy, I suspected was also gay. He wanted to be a fashion designer and LOVED Barbara Streisand. Unfortunately, he was also a Jehova's Witness, so his coming out was probably rather painful. He still doesn't identify as gay on Myspace, but he's definitely gay considering something like 90% of his friends do identify as gay and they all live in West Hollywood.

I also found the lesbian through Myspace. She has several pictures of her and her girlfriend embracing on there, even though she doesn't list herself as gay. I remain the only person out of about 150 on there who actually identifies as gay. Sigh. I still hold out hope for some very hot friends that leave the sexuality question blank though :)
 
There were kids in grades above me and below me that were out (or obvious at least) in high school, but no one at all in my grade that I know of. I thought that was pretty odd at the time, and still do.
 
I don't know anyone I went to high school with who's gay.

I just had this conversation with my two gay brothers. Two or three years after high school I ran into three guys (two from my class, one from the class ahead of me) in a gay club. One guy was this really cute blonde who ran track. Another was the grandson of a New England mafia boss! But he was queeny even in high school. The most surprising was when I went to visit one of my best buds from school. I crashed in his apartment for a weekend and once while he was out I checked out some of his videos. One was gay porn. I never said anything and neither did he.
