High school gym showers

I never used the shower, although one really built (and douchey) guy was going to use the showers. I don't think he ever did. One thing I definitely won't miss is the smell of noxious death sweat and Axe body spray.

At my high school, the change room/showers was one long narrow room. On one side was a bench where you'd change, and on the other side was the showers... with no barrier of any sort between them. Showering was optional, but a few guys would do it (not many though, because the space wasn't very big, and there were only four or five shower heads.)
Due to the configuration of the space, you'd have a perfect, clear view of the guys in the showers!

Our showers were formed like a tunnel of shower heads. You would go through the hot water and then it would become cold at the end. We would all wipe down after getting out..we would all stand around drying ourselves off. I still remember an 11th grader making fun of me. He was fully naked and had black hair....football player...and he was in my wood shop class. Nice guy. Would had loved to play with his cock then but I was out yet.

Someone mentioned this already. In my junior high school we were required to take showers after gym. And our gym teachers always joined us in the showers too.

No showers in high school as there were constant race riots. We didn't even have lunch in high school.

Love your post, I some times think that boys today are being denied. When kids lived on farms they had skinny dipping, in large families bath water was shared (I know gross). Guys were more comfortable about their bodies.

Today when I have gone to the gym few shower, just us old farts, the 20-30 crowd won't go past stripping to their underwear, "my god, what if they see me?"

The gym shower was not a pleasant place. Our coach kept us on the field so long that we only had 10 minutes at best to shower, get dressed, and rush to the next class. We didn't shower in high school. In college the gym had shower heads but there were partitions that made it private enough.

I believe the prevailing theory was it would "desensitize" you to being naked around other guys. Force you to confront, and overcome, your insecurities. "Toughen" you up. Wipe out any curiosities, or sensationalism, about other guys.

They were likely getting us ready for the military.

Of course, that didn't always work out that way. A few guys ended up being traumatized. In general, though, it accomplished the desired effects.

My first school "let's all get naked" experience was freshman PE class. As much as I think that the guys today are a bit too awkward about being naked, I have to ask, what right does anyone have to force a child to undress in front of anyone, other than a Dr.?
If one child suffers trauma because he is made fun of while naked it is not right. I think there could be some middle ground, showers should be offered and encouraged, but I must confess that a lot of us were tormented in the showers, I loved the view, the guys looked hot, but the humiliation that some suffered, I wonder if they recovered.
