Yeah, I've never understood this either. Personally, I've always wondered why it is somehow required for all gay men to worship women like Cher, Judy Garland (good voice, though) Mariah Carey, and Liza Minelli. Man, these people are just not my personal taste. I also don't understand why some gay men want to BE them. I'm perfectly fine being myself, thank you. The only straight woman who could be considered a gay icon that I happen to like is Christina Aguilera. She did present gay men in a postive light in the "Beautiful" video, plus I believe she won a GLAAD award, and speaks positively about gay people. :D For me, gay icons are people like Freddie Mercury, Neil Patrick Harris, Jodie Foster, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia De Rossi, Thomas Roberts, Rock Hudson, T.R. Knight, and Lance Bass (well, to a degree I suppose) among others. These people give me something to aspire to. :D
