uhhhhh yea i wouldn't think they are hotties but its nice artwork

Michelangelo's David is (to me) by far the ultimate nude man in art that you just look at and go "Damn." It's so striking because you see how his hands look unproportional but kids look like that while they are developing. I also love how Michelangelo had him stand with his hip somewhat cocked indicating a certain feminity due to the fact he was probably just hitting puberty. Simply stunning.

I think Michelangelo had to be a homosexual because he sculpts and paints his men so intricately and beautifully yet his women are often homely looking at best.

Yep, I agree with Michelangelo's David being one of the best personification of human symmetry (aka beauty). Also, I remember learning about and seeing the Discus Thrower. Something about him, too, representing symmetry.

I'm not a size queen in general but they are all horrendously tiny for my liking. :p

I also always thought it was funny that David is uncircumcised...

From my collection of Old Masters (though, in seriousness, the Pre-Raphaelites weren't really Old Masters, they were just imitating them):

Icarus.jpg

Icarus by Frederic, Lord Leighton. I love the color of his skin and how he just glows.

fallenangel.jpg

The Fall of Lucifer by I know not whom (I neglected to add it to the filename when I downloaded it from some site or other). It's just damned sexy, warm and tense at the same time, angry and resigned.

Titian_IlBravo.jpg

The Bravo by Titian. This one makes me sad because the handsome young man is about to die.

And then of course there's an actual historical person I find very intriguing, Antinous (in fact, I named my teddy bear after him):

That last one is in the Vatican, by the way. I bet old Hadrian would have been pretty pissed if he'd known. On the other hand, they did build the Papal fortress, Castel Sant'Angelo, on top of his tomb, so maybe he's beyond caring.

Oh, and I just remembered, looking at my siggie: returning to the Pre-Raphaelites, Narcissus by Waterhouse.

By the way, erobert, I don't know if you meant that the painting you linked was a Caravaggio or if you meant that Caravaggio's paintings contained hotties like the one you linked... but the painting you linked is The Triumph of Divine Love Over Profane Love by Giovanni Baglione. Just so's you know. ;)

I remember as kid first time seeing the statue of David in all his glory.

When will the Religious Right demand they cover up these works of art?

This 'historical hottie' was so 'hot' he ended his life supended in chains above a blazing bonfire.

Of course, that was nothing he himself hadn't done to other people at an earlier 'hot' historical point.

Is it just me or does it look like Icarus shaved his pubes?

Keep in mind the Pre-Raphaelites tended to use live models . . . most
likely the pubes were there, but not painted.
