VERY inappropriate for him to be using his HIV status to play this kind of politics. He's judging the porn industry now but that's only because he can no longer work in its mainstream, either as straight or gay-for-pay.

This has been an interesting discussion to follow. I regret that the discussion devolved a little into making rather harsh sounding judgments about some of the people affected by this incident. I always thought that the issues were too complex for me to feel comfortable making those kinds of judgments about the people and organizations involved. I still haven't worked through all of the issues in my own mind.

I don't know for certain what the producers should do. I don't know what the performers should do. I didn't speak about those issues precisely because I don't know what the answers are. I do have empathy for the performer in question. I am not lacking empathy for all the other parties involved.

I just know what I can do as a consumer. Before the recent information about the prevalence of STD's, including HIV, among performers in the adult industry; I hadn't fully appreciated the extent to which the performers are putting themselves at risk for my entertainment. Now that I have more information; I don't think I will make some of the same choices I did before about what I buy.
