HIV-positive porn performer speaks out

Pittguy... what's your deal in this?

It's like you're desperately trying to catch me in some sort of "gotchya" moment. But I'm not sure why. I don't work for AIM and don't really know whole lot about it. I'm not on the model managing side of the business, I do marketing and directing. So.. by the time the guys make it to the studio... that's all been done.

Most gay studios just use condoms... no AIM testing at all. We now only use it when we're doing a straight scene or the gay models ask for it.

Now that we don't do bareback, we use condoms for all our scenes. If the models ask for AIM testing too, they get testing too.

This is the way it should be. I've heard that the gay porn industry would "collapse" if mandatory testing was required, not sure how true this is though. I don't think condom use AND testing is really necessary, well unless there is a worry about STD's that could be acquired though oral sex. but maybe you guys already test for those.

I don't think using a condom is a realistic substitute for actually knowing the status of your partner. I think, in life and on screen, people should be tested before a new partner.

I personally wouldn't have sex with someone I knew was HIV positive even with a condom. That being said, I would hope the condom would protect me in the case I might not know 100% the statues of someone I was having sex with, and I think if the condom is used properly, I would be fine.

Jasun you said only one studio puts a lot of stock in the "straight guy having gay sex" theme but come on-Corbin Fisher, Sean Cody, Cocky Boys, Next Door Male, Bait Bus, Broke Straight Guys are still plugging away with this theme.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be a studio and what you consider to be a "site only."

but yeah.. there are certainly a lot of companies that have the "straight guy" thing going. Hard to argue with success.

Trying to look up safe sex info.

This here looks like bullshit:
http://www.medinstitute.org/public/92.cfm

Looks like some fucking Christian who preaches abstinence all the time wrote it. Please don't tell me this is true.

Yes; that site is bullshit. If you look under "about us" it is clear that they are in the business of preaching abstinence. And then if you spend a few minutes googling random members from their board of directors, it is clear that they are all anti-sex christians or people who otherwise make a living from teaching shame about sexuality to young adults instead of responsibility.

Yeah I know a lot of people who try to go for the abstinence thing down here in the South. They talk a lot of shit about life in general though so nothing they say surprises me.

Oh.. and get this... because of the new trend of gay men in gay porn... there are actually straight guys out there claiming to be gay or bisexual so they can get work. How's that for fucked up?#-o

In your opinion, has the number of actual gay and bi guys in the business increased. That is fucked up, but I guess it's good that guy and bi men want to watch actual gay and bi men more.

I don't care to watch closeted bisexual and gay men in porn who call themselves "straight" because of marketing or the studio or some director tells them how they'll get more viewers if they do this.

If a guy is doing porn where he has sex with other men, and sex for pay with men he's not straight or heterosexual at all.

Straight guys frequently do solo jackoff scenes but there's no sex with any men at all in these.

Money in itself will not be a factor in a straight guy having gay sex...He is gay or Bi and using the term "straight" to hide his true feelings.

You don't make tons of money in porn as a performer, the producers, studio executives, and people at the top make it all.

You can rim if you have a clean ass right? And get the necessary STD vaccinations.

I won't question whether they just, blamelessly, "did their job" or not, simply because I can't possibly decide in a couple of minutes, from Barcelona, what others in America would need days, weeks and months of legal paperwork to try to clarify. But it is true that their business, apparently, is medicine, not porn.
The problem is that they present themselves as the INDUSTRY's medical association, not even the workers', and whatever they do and whatever their intentions are, will always appear more suspicious than if they were just a healthcare foundation working with the adult industry as with any other sort of professionals. So the case about that guy's infection could very easily derive into a case about "smut peddlers and their attendants".

I basically agree with this sentiment. I don't claim to be familiar with AIM but from what I've read here and in the article, it seems to be one of those organizations that was created by a particular industry, existing largely to curtail further government/legal regulation of that industry. Further, its allegiance appears to be first and foremost to the industry and the industry's wellbeing, not the performers or their personal health.

Case in point is the notion that AIM discouraged the actor in question against seeking medical help outside the industry or the other notion that a performer known by AIM to be HIV+ was allowed, in the course of a production, to have sex with those who were HIV-, including this actor. No one here knows the full truth but it seems to me the only ethical thing to do would be to protect the health of the performers -- and, by extension, the health of those he has intercourse with in private, outside the business: life partners, dating partners and the public who uses them as escorts.

And gay porn should have the same health and safety standards as straight porn does. I hadn't realized there was a disparity. I find that quite troubling in several ways.

Ever since I heard the news about Derrrick Burts/Derek Chambers /Cameron Reed, I've been curious to see a video in which he performed. No luck.

It's has been mentioned here that he did a video for OutInPublic which has been removed from their site. However, images from the vid are still posted on WayBig. For those interested, it's titled Wham Bam Thank You Man!

I wonder if that's the guy he claims to have contracted HIV from?

He claims to have contracted HIV from the Unglory Hole shoot.
Mind you, like I said before, he is supposed to have had three different STDS before he got HIV.
Blaming the one porn site can only go so far.
