i went on a guy i've been seeing for a about a week. we've always had protected sex. for example, tonight we has anal sex using a condom. the sacry thing is when he was about cum he pulled out, took of the condom and came on my back. i worried some might have dripped down near ass. immediately wiped near my ass and showered off. he says he's negative for everything including HIV, but now i'm scared shitless.

I'm thinking i need to PEP treatment but don't know if this kind of encounter would qualify. also i'm in a pretty rural area and not sure if i can find a hospital that would have PEP. Does anyone know what the procedure is for finding these? should I even bother?

I believe they're very selective about administering PEP treatments, and I'm not thinking that your case would qualify.

I agree, it sounds quite unlikely that you would have gotten something. A PEP treatment is really extreme and full of side-effects for your body. They almost only give it to people who a direct, risk contact. (= unprotected sex, contact with cum of someone who is known or very likely to be HIV positive).

If you had have called the PEP Hotline where I work and told us this story you would not qualify for PEP.

The two questions you raised, I've questioned, myself. When I've seen this happen in porn, shooting on the back and it dripping down to the asshole, I thought that might not be safe. But I know AIDS is not easy to catch.

The other thing, PEP, I've had the same questions. Like, who do you see? What's the time frame?

Next time, tell your fuck buddy to shoot in the condom. Or some place, where it wouldn't run into your asshole.

well, if by "they" you mean HIV counselors, health organizations, and most people who take part in this forum here, then "they" are teaching us that any intimate contact with an unsheathed penis is a potential risk for contracting an STD including HIV. And they have taught us that semen carries more of the HIV virus than any other bodily fluid. And they have informed us that there is an emergency treatment for people who think they have just come into contact with the HIV virus. To quote Dan Savage: "If you think you came into contact with HIV, go directly to the nearest emergency room and demand PEP."

Gay guys are bombarded almost daily by warnings about the dangers of sex, whether its from doctors, health organizations, and the gay community. Fundamentally I think that's a very very good thing. But the side effect is that it makes a good deal of us paranoid, whether a condom is (hopefully) used or not.

In my case, after sex with someone (even though condom is used), I start to calculate in my head how much time parts of my body were in contact with his, what parts of our bodies we touched, and where sperm or even pre-cum might have touched. Then I look back at my sexual history and think, "Whoa I had sex with 4 people last year, I must be a huge slut."

But come on, I can't be alone in feeling this way.

Simply put, within 72 hours of a 'potential' risk activity you need to contact an emergency room at a major hospital or specialist sexual health centre to enquiry about the eligibility of being given PEP. Most place will have a brief questionnaire about the risk activity to determine if PEP is warranted or not.

In New South Wales, Australia we have a PEP Hotline were people can call 24 hours a day seven days a week if they have had a 'risk' activity and they will be asked the questions to determine eligibility and then if warranted they will be referred to their nearest emergency room.

You can skip the risk and the paranoia if you get to know the people you have sex with - their status will not be a mystery to you, and their own health history, reliability, honesty, and so on, will all be familiar to you.

That is the message that is not getting out, because most HIV counselors, health organizations, etc., are not willing to say so. But that is the message which should be bombarding us as gay men.

That would be wrong. Just by contact to a penis you can get a few STDs but not HIV.

And they have taught us that semen carries more of the HIV virus than any other bodily fluid. And quite often we see people here who think they have come in contact with HIV when their risk was really really low. The problem is the same as with those people who think they cannot get it if they only top etc. People are still pretty uninformed - both the invincible and the scared guys.
Call an HIV help line, tell them what happened. I would be VERY surprised if anyone of them would tell you to get a PEP treatment.
