Please vote even if you make no comment. It might help others to make informed descisions based on others experiences and situations. In a quick check I didn't find a similar poll and I thought it might be a usefull source of information.

Negative here.....
Is there higher chance of getting HIV when you have sex with male than with a female?

It might also be noteworthy to some that this poll is anonymous. The other users will not be able to see the answer you selected.

This kinda poll does appear on JUB from time to time.

I think it is important that guys see this because HIV is real. And sorry, but the guys who say it is hard to get are wrong.

Sloppy safe sex practices are the culprit.

Of course the general population here at JUB is fairly young. I think that reflects in the Poll results. That plus most guys only reply to the topics when they are on the front page. It is too bad that Moderators can't "Sticky Post" important issues to stay on top of the first page.

I'll admit it. I'll just pop online and only read the front page topics. Most of us are too busy to go digging looking for old topics.

Higher chance? Not really. Not unless you figure a guy tends to be more promiscuous than a girl.

But if each has HIV and you fuckem both without a condom, you are at equal risk.

Actually I don't see why there should be a difference as to why you would or wouldn't wear a condom, or be conscious of other scenarios, sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, etc.

I never EVER have any type of intercourse without a condom. PERIOD.

When you consider that throughout the rest of the world HIV is spread more between heterosexual sex than through homosexual sex, the question seems pretty moot.

In the Gay Community, at least, we know what NOT to do to sero-convert.

I'm not that sexually active, so I don't test that often. It really becomes an issue for me whenever I'm dating someone, then I want to know for sure, and encourage the guy that I'm with to do the same.

I'd be curious to see the "Untested" section split into those who are sexually active and those who are not. I have a hunch the general gay populace isn't testing themselves like they used to.

Thank you, I forgot to menton that. This is for other peoples information not out of personal curiosity.

You are right I didn't word it well enough. Sorry!

Tested negative. It's a good practice to get tested at regular intervals, even if you know you don't have anything. It just keeps you aware and coming back to a location that can provide you with sexual health information.

I was tested a few weeks ago because of an accident while working in the hospital. Pricked myself with a dirty needle while trying to start an IV on a guy. Had to have blood drawn, both the patient and I were negative so nothing to worry about. Pretty scary though.

I agree with luminum's comment above. Gay and bisexual men should get into the habit of getting tested at LEAST every 6 months whether they have been sexually active or not, especially when one can get tested every time for free! Unfortunately, regardless of how active or nonactive you are - the apprehension is still there everytime you go through the process.

Tested negative. I last tested 4 weeks ago. I would urge everyone to get in the habit of being tested. You can usually be tested free without having to reveal your identity.

ScottBanes expressed my view pretty well. My sex life is virtually nonexistent, but I go for regular testing, and am always scared. The first time I tested, I asked for the more thorough test that takes two weeks for results, because I in no way wanted to face the results without a friend there -- of course that being shortly after it really hit me that my family had walked out on me my first Christmas 'out' upped the stress. Then when it was negative, I cried and shook anyway.

Sorta. The gender of the individual doesn't really matter. However, different sex acts do have different transmission rates. Most notably, transmission throught anal sex is more likely than vaginal or especially oral sex. Also, at least in North America and Europe, the incidence of HIV is much higher among gay and bisexual men than straight men or women. So in effect, the risks tend to be statistically higher when you're having sex with a man than a woman.
