here you either get a second appointment to get your result, or they will call you when you can come in. they do not tell you the result on the phone.
if you do the quick-tests you can wait ~20 minutes and immediately get the result.

I suppose you can do it through your doctor. If you don't want to actually deal with any people, I have done and will be doing again shortly the test from homeaccess.com

It's very easy and if you do the express one you can find out in just a day or so (depending on when you mail it back). It's over the phone and automated.

they have a hep c test as well

Where I go for the test, you talk to a councillor for the 20 minutes while you wait. Should the test be +ive, they would immediately send a second sample to the lab and the counseling would go to the next level.

Here it has to be in person since they don't know 100% who they are talking too. Also they give incentives for some people to be tested (which I am one) so it is worth going in again. I do have a two week wait though.

I ordered a 15-minute, at home test off of the internet.

Do those count?

I'm having my first HIV / STD test tomorrow. I'm "inbetween partners" (haven't had sex in freaking AGES) so I thought it'd be a good time to have my first. I don't want to be one of these dumbass kids who blindly go around having unsafe sex and don't think about it.

I was really nervous about the prospect of the test, but as I get closer I'm not so. No reason to be worried, but can't stop my mind from going "what if..."

Don't really know what to expect so I'll try and post something somewhere (maybe here) after. I figure the more people talk about the tests the less anxiety there'll be in the future for first-timers, right?

^imho "at home" hiv test are a bad idea.

There are also tests you can get at either certain pharmacies or over the internet, where you put a drop of blood on a paper and send it out to a lab in a pre-addressed envelope. It's checked in a lab by certified professionals, and when you call, they'll give you the result over the phone.

The major downside is that these cost about $70, whereas going to a walk-in clinic and getting tested would usually be free.
