Saw & Loved it except for that annoying mother CBS show character

Give Jeremy Pope [STRIKE]the Oscar [/STRIKE] the Emmy!

Meanwhile I found the decent characters and their interactions more compelling---a tribute to the actors--- than the fantasy plot which basically served its purpose.

Saw the first show, found it mildly entertaining, but think the true saga of the filling station-cum-brothel (no pun intended--I just realized what I wrote) would have been much more interesting and entertaining. The young Scotty--he's still alive--was a handsome guy and whored as much for the rich and famous as the guys he employed.

Growing up knowing a lot of Hollywood types, and first hired as a escort at 19, I can say that the LA demi-monde is a lot more interesting than what I think the series conveys. You have no idea...

Actually Scotty died last year

So what do we think?

Here's an article discussing the show's portrayal of the #MeToo situations:

Ryan Murphy's "Hollywood" Portrays An Unfair Double Standard For The #MeToo Era

Ryan Murphy has built an impressive career for himself. He's the mastermind behind hit shows such as "Nip/Tuck," "Glee," and "American Horror Story." His new limited series, "Hollywood," premiered May 1 on Netflix. The show takes place in Hollywood post-World War II.

The aim of the series is to rewrite history so minority groups gain representation and acceptance in tinseltown. The series focuses on racial equality, women's rights, and the LGBTQ community. While this concept certainly deserves applause, other aspects of the show deserve boos.

Seen it. Entertaining, I'll give you that, but blown away I was not. Some very good performances (Jim Parsons, Patti LuPone, Dylan McDermott) mixed with terrible ones (the guy who plays Rock Hudson). Mostly bad dialogue all the way through and the feel-good finale is simply stupid. Not a fan of Ryan Murphy anyway, didn't care for Nip/Tuck nor Glee.

Re: Netflix Series Hollywood

Two episodes in and i'm not impressed, I usually love Darren Criss but he's meh here along with the male lead.

The black guy and most of the olds are way better.

You get the feeling the story would be better told through the female cast, maybe that's to come.

Is beautifully done visually (Murphy is always great at the aesthetic side of things) but the storytelling is mediocre at best and the main actors acting is incredibly bad -which they try to compensate with amazing good looks- by the 3th episode it gets tiresome and starts to fall apart, Samara Weaving (which i usually love) is unbereable, Patti Lupone plays her usual bitch persona, Jim Parsons is possibly the only redeeming performance on the show but his character is so incredibly unlikeable and disgusting. The characters try to hard to be likeable but the writing is as wooden as the acting so as result, you dont care about those characters...it all fells like a high school play...a expensive one but still a terribly bad one.

A typical Murphy´s fantasy by the book: a show that mixes actual historical facts with his own agenda...also glorifies male prostitution as the only way to make it in Hollywood (Which is funny because Ryan Murphy just as Brian Singer is famous for having a casting couch himself). Murphy always excells at the visual style of his productions yet the problem is he always tries to uber sexualize and scandalize the viewer with gratious nudity and by cartoonizing his very own characters...which works great in AHS but is unsavory and ridiculous when he tries to narrate historical events. The same gay sensibility that works so well in some of his productions ends like his very own worst enemy in this show: his vision is some kind of ridiculous histerical fagotry typical of the aging rich queens of the industry like the ones he so distastefully represents on this show...Since he is one of those unsavory rich creeps who molest actors in some meta level this show is a love letter to his creepy self for succesfully get away with it, and getting away with it he does ...with flying colors. (Thanks Netflix)

Somewhere out there Kevin Spacey is shaking his head wondering why Murphy got that privilege and not him... (Weinstein me this).

Funny fact: The infamous gas station is actually real and still stands somewhere in Hollywod, but the story about Rock Hudson among other celebrities of the time are fictionalized "Murphyzied" versions and even at that is done so disrespectfully that one can´t help to cringe every step of the way. All the racial and queer dinamics of the show couldnt be possible in that era at all...The famous "pool Parties" full of male prostitutes were actually usually hosted by Montgomery Clifft at the end of his life when he didnt gave a fuck. Executives, actors and writers were super careful with their personal lives, always in fear of being arrested and outcasted. Is all a fairy tales, in the same manner "Pose" tries to borrow as much as possible from "Paris Is Burning" but it fails representing the real ballroom scene or at least be historically accurated about it.

Long story short is guilty trashy fun...but it gets old very quick... 9 episodes is a bit too long for such thin plot and such bad acting.

I enjoyed the beginning of the series, but progressively got more bored with each episode.

The whole 'gay thing' is pushed way too hard. The story is like a gay fairytale without depth. I cringed a lot because of it.

I don't really know a lot about Rock Hudson's personal life but they portray him very bad. In the series he is too innocent, unintelligent and a pushover.

I like Jake Picking though. He's quite hot for me lol. If you don't see it, you didn't miss anything I think lol.

I think I will watch this. A couple months ago a gay friend of mine gave me the documentary movie about the gas station and I watched it but the sound was not working on part of the film. I want to see this though and will watch it today now that I know about it. Funny thing about Hollywood - there are so many open secrets AND so many guys that are famous and regularly have sex with men that are never even mentioned. It isn't as though they hide it either - just low key kinda guys who don't seek publicity anyway so they fly under the radar. It seems the ones everyone refers to were also constantly seeking publicity and/or the spotlight anyway.

Parsons' character is unlikable and disgusting because Henry Wilson, the real life Hollywood agent he is portraying, was a person who used the power of his position to do a lot of unlikable and disgusting things to the young men who put their careers in his hands. Also if you watch the Scotty Bowers documentary, they mention that the gas station is no longer standing and is now a fire station.

The station building has been repurposed for sure, but still exist (so does the little parking lot where the infamous sex camper used to function). There´s a guy on Hollywood who does celebrity tours but oriented to infamous Hollywood places and there´s a couple of videos where he coments on the bulding, you can check it out.

About Parson...As i said he does a pretty good job (actually the best acting performance on the show) with the given material and I´m sure Henry Wilson was an horrible person, but so is Ryan Murphy who as i mentioned is a major creep and is a well know fact he has a casting couch (Just like Wilson) where he usually pluck male talent for his shows (from Pose to AHS) so that´s where it gets confussing to me because i´m not sure this show is a social commentary or a love letter to himself and to so many others that just like him put male actors in such precarious situations. Maybe eventually he will get Me2-ed or Weinsteined or whatever is called now...Maybe not now because he still has some power in Hollywood by tv standards but eventually the shit floats...so yeah...remember this words, it will eventually happen.

There´s (and always has been) a Gay mafia in Hollywood...From directors, stablished closeted actors, producers, casting agents to secretive escort agencies, bodyguards (who double as masseurs), beard arrangers, etc. All the gay agenda you see on tv or movies (Glee, RPDR, AHS) is a fairy tale ... What happens behind cameras is way more sordid and unnerving. Those rich old molesty queens you see cartoonized in this series are alive and well...they are by no means a dying breed.

It is a wonderful show from start to finish. It is a Hollywood fantasy series that focuses on gay men. The Rock Hudson story was enjoyable (and too damn bad he couldn't have lived his life as gemerously as Ryan gave him here) and that goes for the black casting as well. Spme of the performances are just incredible. The Samuels character was one of my favorites who suffered his closet most of his life and finally said 'fuckit!' Patti Lupone was terrific and there was eye candy galore. If you can, watch it. It is a gay fantasy with a great ending. I fucking loved it. Loved those actors who just gave a beautiful life to these people. Hurray for Ryan's Hollywood.

And for fantasy ending check out Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Just finished epi 3 and so enjoying it. Great seeing Parsons own his role and haven't thought of Bazinga once. But the thing for me is when a period piece is done so well (think Mrs Maisel) it adds another element to the show.
