Hollywood Doesnt Care About Gay Movies

Again, tragedy over comedy. I think that's the same way with straight characters, where we have to watch their hardships or just get annoyed when they get the girl they don't deserve.

I've never felt sorry for the majority of the Woody Allen characters in a way that I'd feel sorry for George in A Single Man or Precious. I don't feel sorry for Harvey Milk neither.

Mainstream motion pictures, released on a very expensive large scale and like wise promoted, are for mainstream America. They have to make a lot of money just to break even.

Gay people are not mainstream. We're side stream. We're odd stream. We're the suicidal, serial killer, pedophile, sex crazed all around mentally disturbed freaks in the storyline at most.

We can never catch a break because that would fly in the face of conventional thinking.

Even so, there are some really good television and independent films out there if you know where to look.

Sundance Channel
Independent Film Channel
HBO
Showtime
here! On Demand movies and series (all gay, all the time)

There are good gay films out there, but they're all made by independent studios rather than the Hollywood machine, who simply aren't interested in making films to appeal to a narrow demographic.

If you haven't seen Shelter yet, go out and rent it NOW. Or I will hunt you down and kill you.

I haven't heard of the movie, nor have I seen ANY main-stream movies here in Europe with hardcore gay sex scenes. You occasionally see a limp dick but I've never seen a cumshot.

Yes I agree. I guess Marco thinks that just because a movie is made in Europe no one else can watch it. News Flash Marco we can watch and do watch movies made in Europe down here in America.
I have yet to see what he is describes outside of hardcore porn.

It would be nice to see Hollywood making a gay action movie.Gay men can fight too.Hollywood should make a gay version of Tango & Cash. The movie would be about 2 gay cops fighting crimes.Hollywood should also cast real gay actors. The movie should have at least 1 sex scene with the 2 gay men leads. The sex scene would have to be intense and long.

If gay men are able to watch Basic Instinct.Straight people would be able to watch Shoot It Hard. The gay version of Tango & Cash.Straight men would have a hard time watching 2 gay men fucking.But.If they would like the movie. They would get use to it.

If Hollywood would make big studio gay movies with gay sex.Straight people would get use to it.So.More and more gay sex scenes would be shown in big studio movies.Gay movies could make money too.Not only gay men would go to the theaters watching gay movies.

If Hollywood keeps never showing gay sex scenes in big movies.Straight people will never get use to it.

Gay movies should not only be independent movies.Gay men doesnt only wants to watch depressing gay dramas and stereotyped gay comedies.

Hollywood should make gay action movies with masculine gay men having sex.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not. Seriously, who cares about gay films anyway? Why does everything has to be gay just because we are? Romance films suck anyway. THINK OF THE ASEXUALS, why do they have to watch our dirty, gross, disgusting sex scenes (gay or not)?.

If gay men are able to watch Basic Instinct.Straight people would be able to watch Shoot It Hard.

Okay, there needs to be a smilie for falling-out-of-my-chair-laughing-so-hard-with-soda-spraying-from-my-nostrils because it would be perfect for this. Even I couldn't take that title seriously as a mainstream movie, but it would be a great porn version of Tango and Cash!

And Jasun, I would be very interested to see your list of good gay or gay-themed movies. Seriously. I'm not mocking, I'm genuinely interested. I've been hunting on Netflix for such, and have only found a couple that were enjoyable with a happy ending.

I could recommend "Boy Culture" with Daryl Stephens, by the way. Enjoyed that one a lot.

Aside from Hollywood having more or less attention on gay-themed movies, it leans more to the fact that Hollywood focuses more on films who has their own die-hard fans, and hence gay movies crash and burn.

Suppose anyone come to Hollywood with a script entitled "Homo Holocaust", the outcome will be scarily different.

Maybe it's high time we make our own movie.

Shoot It Hard looks like a gay porn tittle.Shoot Em Up also looks like a porn tittle. This is a good movie as well.

Sometimes.Mainstream movies tittles looks like porn movies tittles.Bitch Slap,Desire Under The Elms,Hard Candy,Wet Hot American Summer,Body Heat,The Pleasure Drivers ect...

Shoot It Hard would be a good tittle.Even for a mainstream gay action movie.

If i would be a director. This is what it would look like.

From Marco Sensual. The famous gay director who gave you the big gay hits.

Some of those sound like the gay equivalent of those soft core straight porn movies on Cinemax.

When it comes to rumoured homosexual tension in classic film, (Rope, Maltese Falcon), I drop it and say that it's just a strong friendship. I didn't buy it for Beau Travail.

I bought in Jesse James. His love was an obsession and wasn't constant, but it was there.

Huh? Brüno was an unmitigated bomb in the US. It was a total failure and the term "The Twitter Effect" was coined to describe how it opened huge and was destroyed in 24 hours by awful reviews done from the theater by the audience on their cell phones.

Who told you that movie was a hit?

According to the Wik it made 60 million Yankee dollar in takings across the pond; that's 3x what it cost (if i recall correctly it only cost about 20 million) to make, in addition to the 70 million it made elsewhere, so although they thought it might earn more it certainly wasn't a bomb. It was shit, though. Good for a laugh here and there, but a real one-trick pony.

As for the OP, it's obvious why these sort of movies don't get made. It's the same reason we aren't inundated by stories of amputees and cancer survivors and blind people and fat people and albinos and whatever - they're pandering to mainstream and what people want to watch and what they can either identify with (your average rom-com) or be prepared to suspend disbelief for (Batman). At the end of the day it has more to do with audiences and bums on seats than studios. If the people really wanted to see these films every single David de Couteau movie would be a dvd bestseller. The fact that they aren't says a great deal.

List of gay movies I'd make.

Um... ok. Are you on drugs? No?

Ok. Um... would you like me to get you some, then?

Im not on drugs.I never took drugs and never will.I dont drink,i dont smoke and i dont take drugs.

Do you know what having the sense of humour means?

Do you know what joke means?

Would you like me to get you some more humour?

I also add The Wedding Banquet, a Taiwanese film that caught on in Hollywood and nominated for an Oscar. A wonderfully funny gay film.

Aha. This explains a great deal.

Do you know what having the sense of humour means?

Oh I see - it was an attempt at comedy. My bad.

No... wait... it's not my fault it wasn't funny. So I guess then that 's your bad.

/canned laugh-track

Yes. No, I think I'm managing fine, thanks. ..|

By the looks of that poster and the fact that the movie is starring Jim Carrey, I think the movie is probably best left on the shelf. Something like this could be more insulting than good. Straight audiences love laughing at gay people and I could only see this movie adding fuel to the fire. No thanks.

I never considered Buffalo Bill in "Silence of the Lambs" gay. To me he was just confused about his whole being. The book clearly says that he's not a homosexual. I guess some people took it that way.

Lecter I think said that Buffalo Bill was too unstable and thus was denied for his request to be turn into a female. Even Clarice said that transsexuals are harmless. Bill's a bad queer person but he wasn't used in the movie as a syllogism.

bruno did 137MM worldwide. production would not have been incredibly expensive, likely less than 30MM but i'm betting P&A domestic was 40MM and another 40MM worldwide, so if it made 30MM after the doors are closed - i'd be surprised. basically, a dud.

 Do tell, what brought you to this "porn" portal forum, anyway?

;)

I get your point, though.
