Whatever color scheme you have going on in your living space, add some black items. Picture frames here and there as well as black area rugs and other things really tend to enrich a space.

I'm not a fan of bright lights so we pretty much have everything on a dimmer switch.

Also. Small up lights that you can place behind a plant or pretty much anywhere create lovely ambience. They make some great small battery operated LED lights today

Height. I purchased 2 brass lamps at a flea market that I loved with plain white globes. They turned out to be a bit short in height so I put one up on a few vintage cook books and the other up on a vintage small overnight case that was part of a suitcase collection.
