Homoerotic scenes in mainstream literature?

This is something I feel should be discussed. Ever pick up a plain old fiction novel and find one of the most homoerotic scenes ever? I mean, the imagination (well, mine, anyway) runs even wilder when it finds sexual fuel where it isn't expected. A couple of examples:

All Time Best (so far):
Night Stone by Rick Hautala

A straight teenage guy jerks off to a graphic and explosive orgasm while spying on a husband/wife having sex in their bedroom. Read it almost 15 years ago, and it still enters my mind on at least a weekly basis.

Also:
Stephen King (pretty much everything)

I just can't believe the guy isn't bi, not when he has a history of outlining the aroused male anatomy in such loving detail. Most notable in my book (pun intended) is his discussion in Needful Things of Ricky Bissonette using Jergens hand lotion to whack off while looking at pornographic pictures. That little scene was responsible for my first orgasm.

While "Maurice" won a wide audience, wouldn't it be best described as homoerotic literature?

As a teen, and even as an adult, I found Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy quite interesting. Tolkien had no trouble letting his male characters express deep love for each other, that often felt highly romantic. And the tenderness, the kisses on the hands and foreheads. . . very heady romantic stuff for a closeted gay teen!

That, and I want to do every gay sex act that exists plus invent a few extra for Legolas the elf!

I've always meant to read Maurice.

I vividly remember, years ago, watching the film adaptation - starring Hugh Grant, no less.



I'll always remember the scene where the guy opens his window late at night, goes back to bed, and the young gardener climbs in and starts making love to him, saying something like "Thankyou sir" or "It's alright sir" - damn, that turned me on something massive. I was only about 17. It was definitely wank material at the time.

The build-up to it is at 2:15 on the clip, but I can't find the whole scene anywhere online right now.

Just to see if I can't perk up the thread a bit, another Stephen King bit:

Rose Madder. Straight and studly (but horrible and abusive) cop Norman Daniels rubs the crotch of the gay man he's interrogating on a public park bench, giving him an erection. That little scene does NOT end well, but for the first bit it's pretty damn tasty.
