One friend joked she learned her lessons about plugging one kind of fruit while bashing another kind.

I watched another video of hers on Youtube. It was called "The Downfall Of Anita Bryant". She looks like she could be Mariska Hargitay's mother. Their features are very similar. Can anyone out there find and put pictures of the two woman side by side. I'd like to do a comparison, but I'm not very tech savy when it comes those things. What can I say? I'm a dinosaur with stuff like that.

This is weird - Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield's daughter but I've always thought she looked like her mother should be Rachel Welch ...

I've always thought that Mariska looked quite a bit like her natural mother, Jayne Mansfield. Jayne Mansfield was naturally dark haired and with dark hair, mother and daughter were practically twins. Funny you should mention Rachel Welch because that is another actress that sort of reminded me of Anita Bryant, physically that is. Anita had very attractive sharp features. I hate to say anything good about that vile bigot, but she was striking looking back in the day. Rachel Welch and Anita Bryant are both the very same age, so Rachel is too old to play Anita. When Anita Bryant launched hear hateful campaign, she was 37/38 years of age.

I saw a documentary (wish I could remember the title) that said the pie throwing was a complete surprise to her, but not her handlers.

Her previous appearance had gone badly and they wanted to create some sympathy for her and hired someone to throw the at pie her. That's way no charges were pressed.

The film showed the scene from a different angle and you can see a guy reaching for towel for her to use is already reaching for the towel before she's hit.

I remember the clip where she gets the pie in the face. I always thought that she looked sympathetic because a radical threw a pie in her face instead of refuting her ideas.

Years ago, a news show (maybe 20/20) did a story about Anita Bryant years after her crusade. She was making a comeback with an album. They showed her recording the album and the song she singing was "I Am What I Am" from Jerry Herman's La Cauge Aux Folles.

After Mel Gibson's anti-semetic "Passion Of The Christ" came out a bigoted, right wing fundamentalist came out and said "Christian is the new gay." What a load of BULLSHIT!!
