Let's take the word in its more generic meaning:


homo = human being
phobe = fear


All of us fear some other sort of human being. Some of us fear people who share some characteristics with us.
Sometimes that fear is accompanied by dislike or even hate.

So it's not surprising to find some here who fear some other homos, or even dislike them.


Personally, my favorite line in this thread that's an example of homophobia is to call people "self-loathing". That's a pretty loaded, powerful term, and expresses some pretty potent dislike, or even hate.

If you read back and look for that phrase, you'll see the homophobes in this thread.

I think almost everyone is homophobic. I mean we all were before we realized we were gay/bi/whatever.

Everyone's had it programmed in their head by society or family or kids on the schoolyard that it's bad to be gay or that gay people deserve ridicule. We see it in straight people and gay people, because it's not that easy to deprogram something like that, even when you turn out to be gay. One will find ways to be both gay and homophobic, like saying "i'm gay but i'm straight-acting" or by trying to convincing others that they're against those "bad types" of gays, like drag queens and flamboyant guys.
Even times when we feel afraid to out ourselves to new people, I think is residual homophobia that nags at our minds, telling us we're confessing something slightly bad.

The older I get, the more comfortable I am with my sexuality, and the less I get any bad feeling to exclaim to a group of strangers that I love the cock.

Many of the most outspoken homophobes I've ever known turned-out to be gay or bisexual themselves.

The rest were either molested as a child by someone of the same sex or taunted in school about, well about anything really.

The rest fall into the "religious fanatics" category. They give religion a bad name.

I remember someone telling me about that show and I've always wanted to see that study.

It has always made sense to me that if someone works hard to deny themselves something that at some level they want, that they will be hating hard on people who do not also deny themselves that same thing.

I think for some people it's an internal struggle. Since the day we are born, to the day that we die. All influences on us are geared towards the Straight Life.

Hell, as long as I could remember, I was constantly told that I'd have a wife and lovely children. A home. A good paying Job. A place in the world.

Coming out of the closet (maybe not so much these days) for me was basically the same as the Matrix movie. I chose the Red pill and I'm still seeing how far this rabbit hole goes!

You can't hate people for hating us...cause that just drops us to there level! If anything I feel sorry for people that hate us so much, cause our time is so precious on this little rock. So short of a lifespan, that I can't believe the energy some people waste on trying to exterminate us.
