Does Pakistan have a chance to become a gay friendly country?

Wishful thinking or possibility?

Some statistics says that only 2% of Pakistanis supports gay rights.LGBT people (mostly gay men and transgenders) have a very hard time with homophobia in Pakistan.Only for being who they are.

Tolerance for LGBTs is a relatively recent phenomenon in the west itself - a gradual development since Alfred Kinsey's bombshell 1948 report, and few were out before this century.

Of course a few other events happened in the West first, one, the reformation of religion, two, the enlightenment, three the liberation of women, and four the sexual revolution. Will all the above take 500 years? I hope not. The West does have an effective habit of exporting its culture.

Maybe ... when Islam ceases to be taken seriously. That, hopefully, is just a matter of time and education.

The West has only been gay-friendly since Christianity began dying off and having no real influence on secular life and laws. Without the bigotry of religion fuelling judgemental prejudice most people don't seem to have much of a problem with same-sex orientations. Look at the progress that Ireland has made since the Catholic church lost power and influence there.

I think the answer is NO Pakistan is an interesting country a hot bed for terrorism yet the government claims to be friends of the west. Osama Bin Laden hid in Pakistan for years after 9/11 and the Pakistani government knew it.

A lot of homosexuality occurs in those Islamic countries. I remember, the Atlantic published an excellent article a few years ago about homosexuality in Saudi Arabia. Can you IMAGINE being gay in that country? Even straight sex is policed there. I am sorry there are a few places in the world just not safe for gays Africa and the Middle East. Those are two parts of the planet where gays face a lot of discrimination also most of Asia as well. I think the Phillippines is one of the few Asian countries despite being Catholic which is somewhat progressive views about homosexuality and perhaps Thailand.

Western countries have periods in their fairly recent history that have swung between conservatism and decadence before hovering somewhere in a more comfortable compromise

Which means that even most gays and bisexuals there are against homosexuality. And that may even be true. I've fucked a fair number of people born in Pakistan, and they were mostly self-oppressed. And since these were guys who had moved to Europe or at least northern Africa, they were probably quite enlightened compared to your average local yokel. Oh well. End of this stream of consciousness.

Well it did, when it was determined to do so. Nowadays many westerners feel they need to "respect" and not "offend" the barbarians.

I disagree. The pace of progress isn't constant. It can gain a lot of traction after a long period of stagnation. Russia was a feudal society in 1880 and a modern communist tyranny by 1940. Look how America evolved between 1760 and 1800. And women didn't have the right to vote in Switzerland until 1971.

Porn is illegal in Pakistan and the government blocks porn sites.

I know 5 Pakistani men. Two of them admitted to having gay sex. All of them are homophobic.
Despite that, I have found them to be very gentle, hospitable people. I think they want to be open minded
and tolerant. They love their freedom here.
They feel terrible guilt for having gay sex. There is lots of sex with underaged children in that country.

And now Russia is backsliding into a reactionary, repressive state that seeks to criminalize homosexuality again.

Not just homo sex it's all sex---Muslims believe sex is only ok if you are married and their is the possibility of having a kid---
So homo sex doesn't fit the bill---it's only for fun so it's a no no.
And of course it will all come around eventually---give it 20 or 30 years lol
