It is true that Cameron is a notorious rightwing extremist and homophobe, so this so-called "study" is bogus at best. Among older gays that I know, most of them have simply outgrown the bar scene, got bored with it, bored with "tricking" and casual sex and/or they are in relationships. It is also human nature that the older one becomes, the less interest there is in non-stop sex, as compared to being in your teens and 20's, when most men reach their sexual peak. However, I know guys well into their 50's and 60's who are very sexually active. Also, the old notion that "gay is for the young" is not true at all. I would say that the gay "bar scene" tends to be for the young. Once you get into the late-30's and 40's, it starts to become evident, unless the bar caters to an older crowd. The bars get old and tiresome and there are better things to do. Straight or gay, bars are bars. They are all the same.

I'm studying Education Psychology right now and sexual orientation is mentioned within the text. According to recent studies by Savin-Williams & Diamond, 2004; Steinberg, 2005, 4% of adolescents identify themselves as gay or bisexual while that number increases to 8% at adulthood. I round that figure up to 10% for all the Ted Haggards out there.

Now any one taking Educational Psychology knows perfectly well that many adolescents are not always prone to tell the truth and are instead seeking recognition, attention and their own (sexual) identity at the same time.

As for the inrease to 8 percent in adulthood, maybe those adolescents who did not come forth in the original 4 percent have matured to a point where they now recognize their sexuality as being that of a homosexual. Be interesting to know how many of the original 4 percent of adolescents "change their mind" by the time they are say 26 and then your numbers can become totally skewered.

I think 4-8 % primarily homosexual is more accurate,with closer to a fifth if you talk about experimentation and at least 10-15 % total of the population with varying degrees of bisexual tendencies.Lots of people simply aren't comfortable or through societal pressures and bigotry unwilling to stand up for themselves and say they are either gay or have various gay attractions as well as straight attractions.But it is more instinct than anything else based on the knowledge that many surveys do relate to a sizable number of those who have bisexual desires/and or experiences.

This study is full of flaws making its validity only good for cocktail hours imo. First off, it is location dependant. You survey that many people somewhere like san francisco an it would be a totally different answer. Second, it is relying on the honesty of the people surveyed. And lastly, the conclusion drawn that gays die younger based on this study is absurd and only further demonstrates the ingorance of the investigator. How many that age participated in heterosexual activity? The way it reads more young people participated in homosexual behavior but that doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't equal proportions of homosexuals in older men.

Nobody in the medical community is going to take that statement seriously. I say it is nice to read but that's it. If true, I'm more special than I thought... all good evidence points to 3-5% of the male population being gay.

Okay, so what is the accepted figure currently? I know that a 1930's poll put it at 10%, but that was geared (at least partially) towards college students and prisoners (thus getting the targeted issue), as well as including as homosexual anyone that participated in any homosexual behavior (so a dare to kiss another boy would have two gays right there regardless of any other behavior, as would getting raped). A US government survey put the number at 1% of the population, but that came under fire as well.

So...disallowing those that have merely experimented or engage in some homosexual tendencies (such as looking for naked guys online), how many "true" homosexuals do you figure, as expressed as a percentage of the entire population...

3 of us are gay.................we're all out of the closet, and are accepted at all levels of management.

I would say that's 25%
