Honesty or False Praise

no friends so its a non-issue for me but I do want everyone to tell me the truth and not lie to me for the sake of my feeling etc.
 
both a friend should be able to tell which i need

sometimes when your down you need someone to say something nice even if it not entierly true

and other times you need the truth and a good friend should be able to see what you need :-)
 
The harsh truth is the answer is bleeding obvious, who is going to go for the "False praise option" it even starts with the word false. The "I have no friends option" panders to those who are feeling a bit down at the moment. I' m not feeling down so guess how I voted!
 
lets be blunt, shall we?

i cringe when i see smoke being blown up a skirt.... mine or anyone elses.

we all know when someone is being fake and when that little bell goes off, it is always wise to listen to it. that way you dont have to pretend you didnt know better after you have been played.

thats just the bottom line.

there is a middle ground but its all about instinct ;)

praise so long as its honest is good, just as criticism is, but if you don't know the motives behind them it can be excruciating...... Just like a spouse asking for advice on an outfit

are they asking for encouragement or fashion advice?

hard to tell until its too late, and then you are screwed
 
well if the truth isn't nice, i prefer someone who knows how to keep their mouth shut! lol. i don't need to hear a lie and somtimes notihing is as good as the truth.
 
I am perhaps presuming too much but I have always taken "false praise" for what it is, that is false. Surely we all know when praise is due and justified. In those cases it is pleasant to receive it but not completely necessary as we know ourslelves that we have done well.

"Honest truth" is slightly more difficult due to the reasons already mentioned; whose truth.

In many cases this "honest truth" is merely an opinion and you can agree or disagree. It also depends on how cruel that "truth/opinion" happens to be.

So real friends would praise when it is justified and not excessively. They would give you their opinion truthfully knowing that it may hurt and thus wording their statements as kindly as possible.
