Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

now just imagine if every celebrity on that list were to dip into their own bank accounts...i mean most of them probably have accounts in the double digit millions. good cause though it may be, i don't imagine they'd be able raise anything close to what they'd be able to give themselves. can't help but be a little disgusted by the whole thing.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

I heard Christina Aguilera is performing a song off her new album during tonight's telethon. I will be watching.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Madonna already did dipped into her pockets early on right after she heard the devastation in Haiti.

Whatever her net worth, I find it hard to believe she has millions on her beck and call at any given time.

I'm always of two minds of this sort of event. Whereas one can't fault the giving/charity aspect of it, these events start resembling more and more an excellent facetime event. In short, what a great way for Christina to premiere her new single! Oh, yeah, and the Haiti thing.

Christina didnt premiere her new single. She did some inspirational song. It might be new but it's def not her new single. Either way it was a great performance. She's still got skills. All the celebrities did inspirational type songs so far i think. I thought it woulda been tacky to do otherwise.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

I seriously doubt Christina would debut her new single on a charity telethon. She's not that much of a bitch.

But on a side note, she sounded amazing. I was really touched. Everyone did pretty damn well tonight.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Madonna forgot some of the lyrics for Like a Prayer.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Miss Christina was amazing.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

John Legend was hawt.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris had me in tears w/ "Hallelujah"...my favorite song and they sounded fantastic on it. Christina also sounded and looked fantastic....Just waiting for Itunes to put up the performances so I can get those two(if you can buy single songs...right now you can only pre-order the "album"

That's another thing that bothers me. I can't help wondering who's doing it strictly for the publicity.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

The song she sang wasn't her new single.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

>>>Lex/anyone else singling her out

Only singled her out because Anton suggested he was tuning in specifically because she was performing a new song. Had he (or anybody else) mentioned a different artist, I would've run with that one.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

Hey, nobody ever called me an innovator. My point simply was that celebrities (and their managers, record labels, studios et al) can look at charity gigs more of a publicity move than as an actual charitable move. That's hardly a brilliant or novel thought, and from most accounts, it's moot in this particular case anyway.

But apparently you're not going to let this go until I make the apology. So here you go.

I was wrong to use Christina Aguilera in my example in this thread. It was blatantly false for me to suggest that she was going to be performing her latest single during the Haiti telethon, and for me to do so implied that Christina was simply participating in this worthwhile charity function for solely professional gain. This most certainly was not the case. The gargoyle apologizes to Christina Aguilera, her fans, and to the JUB community in general for any offense and hurt feelings caused by his thoughtless post.

Charity album "Hope For Haiti Now" could make a splashy debut on the tally next week, depending on consumer reaction to the set over the weekend. A No. 1 debut isn't out of the realm of possibility and would mark the first No. 1 digital-exclusive set on the chart.

The songs on "Hope For Haiti Now" were recorded live during the telethon show of the same name that aired Jan. 22 and should reach digital download services on Saturday and Sunday. The "Hope For Haiti Now" show was broadcast on every major TV network at 8 PM ET/PT and 7 PM CT. It was also live-streamed on YouTube, Hulu, MySpace, Fancast, AOL, MSN.com, Yahoo, Bing.com, BET.com, CNN.com, MTV.com, VH1.com and Rhapsody.

The set, priced at $7.99, will be distributed by INgrooves and available through iTunes, Amazon's MP3 store, Rhapsody and Napster. Customers were able to pre-order the set as Jan. 22 via iTunes and then download it once it becomes available. Individual performances will also be available as single track downloads.

Performers at the "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon included (in alphabetical order): Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, the Edge, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Kid Rock, Jay-Z, Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Madonna, Dave Matthews, Emeline Michele, Rihanna, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban and Stevie Wonder.

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

The event has raised more than $58 million to date which is a new record for donations made by the general public through a disaster-relief telethon :=D:

GOD bless all who performed and contributed.
