Re: Hope For Haiti

I feel for Haiti and my heart goes out to them but think what the millions raised could do for the homeless and the hungry in our own country

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

I thought Madonna looked and sounded great. The choir was beautiful and Like A Prayer still gives me chills! I don't think she forget the words she was getting into the choir and didn't come in when she should have. I I liked her performance. It was very laid back compared to her concerts! Stripped down and not perfect!

Re: Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief

The event has raised more than $58 million to date which is a new record for donations made by the general public through a disaster-relief telethon :=D:

GOD bless all who performed and contributed.

Is that from pledges only while the telethon was on air?

Do you have a link to the source?

Thanks.

'Hope For Haiti' Telethon Seen By Over 80 Million

More than 80 million people tuned in for last week's all-star "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon.

The Nielsen Co. said Monday that an estimated 83 million people saw at least a brief part of the fundraiser carried Friday on 33 TV networks. The audience watching the two-hour event at any given time averaged 24 million viewers.

'Hope For Haiti' Will Top Billboard 200

As forecasted last Friday, the "Hope For Haiti Now" benefit album will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart that will be issued on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Though the chart has not been finished yet, industry sources suggest that the 20-track "Haiti" album sold close to 150,000 downloads in the week that just ended on Sunday, Jan. 24. The telethon has already raised $57 million for Haitian relief.

The set, featuring performances culled from last Friday's massive "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon, only reached digital distributors over the weekend, making its sales number all the more impressive. The "Haiti" set will win over Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream," which had been tipped to return to No. 1 with around 80,000 sold.

iTunes Sales Drive $3 Million To Haiti Relief

Apple Inc. confirmed today that worldwide iTunes sales of the "Hope For Haiti Now" album, video, and individual performances have raised more than $3 million for the relief efforts, accounting for nearly all digital sales for the project.

As Billboard reported yesterday, the "Hope For Haiti Now" charity album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 171,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan, becoming the first digital-exclusive set to top the tally in its nearly 54-year history. That album, featuring performances culled from last Friday's (Jan. 22) massive "Hope For Haiti Now" telethon, only reached digital distributors over the weekend, making its sales number all the more impressive. SoundScan's sales tracking week ends at the close of business each Sunday, so "Hope for Haiti's" brisk sales came from no more than two full days.

"Hope For Haiti Now" is setting iTunes chart records too: it's the first project to simultaneously occupy the No. 1 spot on iTunes' US album, song and TV charts.

Hope For Haiti Now' Tops U.K. Chart

" Hope For Haiti Now" (MTV Networks), the all-star soundtrack from MTV's recent telethon for victims of the Haiti earthquake, debuted at the top. It is the first digital-only album to top the U.K. compilations chart.

The 20-track benefit album, digitally released Jan. 22, thus repeats its instant U.S. chart-topping success. Retailing for £5.99 ($9.55) in the U.K., it features contributions from Stevie Wonder, Sting, Coldplay and Alicia Keys among many others. It moved more than 22,000 copies in the U.K., according to the Official Charts Company.

After several of music's biggest stars showed their support for Haiti relief efforts, consumers are doing the same.

Songs from the charity compilation "Hope for Haiti Now" scale the Billboard Hot 100, refreshed today, along with all Billboard sales and airplay charts, on Billboard.com.

Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris' "Hallelujah," featuring Charlie Sexton, vaults 48-13 on the Hot 100 with Greatest Gainer/Digital honors, spurred by a 24-5 charge on the Digital Songs chart (151,000 downloads sold, up 136%).

Three additional cuts from "Hope for Haiti Now" debut on the Hot 100: "Lean on Me" by Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and Keith Urban, the Hot Shot Debut at No. 47; Taylor Swift's "Breathless" (No. 72); and Jennifer Hudson's cover of the Beatles' "Let It Be" (No. 98).

One title that is not a part of the "Hope for Haiti Now" album, but whose proceeds still benefit Haiti-related charities, enters the Hot 100: Eddie Vedder's "My City of Ruins" (No. 92), recorded in December at the Kennedy Center Honors' tribute to Bruce Springsteen.
