I don't think this gets to the root (ha) of the issue here in the UK though. Ginger hair is associated with the underclasses.

Here in the colonies, redheads are considered to likely be Irish (even if they aren't). Given the possibilities of "The Troubles" flaring up again, with Brexit Backstop, etc., etc., there's a history there (being considered "underclass") that might help explain why the term should be used gingerly in the UK.

I don't think ginger in the states is seen as offensive. We really see redhead used more often.

However, if you refer to them as "Fire Crotch" ...

I've never known it as an offensive term or having a negative association. Not that I pay a lot of attention to all the things that offend people these days, but I'm fairly certain I've seen it only in positive contexts to describe someone's appearance. Various hair colors have nicknames. On the other hand, redheadedness is associated with all sorts of stereotypes, and I think there are a lot more names for redheads (positive or otherwise). Relatively rare traits tend to get special attention.

Of course, one could say any isolation of a trait is objectifying the person with the trait, seeing the yummy delicious gingeriness instead of the person... then we'd have to shut down the whole site... Best we not go there.

In Sydney and Melbourne it is Thursday and since I'm down under ...

had another major dust-up with Tumblr. They "arrested" several posts and failed to alert me so I could Appeal. I think there was close to 400 posts. The dust cleared and 20 were sent to Solitary Confinement. The law that they "broke":
