Really? I think it only caused such a stir here in the first place because a DJ on the BBC's main radio station decided that he wasn't going to play it and the controversy kicked off from there. The cover of the record and the official video probably didn't help matters either. Although the song was already popular before the ban, the controversy may very well have made it even more successful.

There was SOME controversy here, just not as big as the UK.
I think it's because the lyrics don't expressly state any specific censored words or phrases, the profanity police were too stupid to pick up on the intent and meaning.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I want to say again that my ex-lover, Brenda Howard, has been called the Mother of Pride:

for her work in coordinating a rally and then the Christopher Street Liberation Day March to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Howard also originated the idea of a week-long series of events around Pride Day which became the genesis of the annual LGBT Pride celebrations that are now held around the world every June.

She passed away on the original Pride date, June 28. There was an award created in her memory to recognize:

an individual or organization that best exemplifies the vision, principals and community service exemplified by the late LGBT rights activist Brenda Howard and who serves as a positive and visible role model for the Bisexual Community.

On a more personal note, she was largely responsible for me developing an interest in men after spending several years convinced I was a lesbian.

I tried finding pictures yesterday and didn't make much progress, especially after following links to some articles about submissive men. Today, I "had to" shop for some smut by an author who has put out a call for the sort of stories I write. She said to read her books to get a better idea of what she likes. I had to choose between lesbian and straight books, and I rarely like reading about women having sex. I think this counts as a business expense - at least one of the three.
