i spent a lot time saving hot pics into my external harddrive.

Now i want to view them and it says "No preview available" but the files are still there.

Is that mean all the pics are damaged and not viewable forever ??:help:

yeah i double click on one and it won't view.
It can't open with any programs like photoshop, paintshop ..etc.

The files are still in jpeg format so whats wrong?
Those pics are hot and can't be rescued? What if there are personal or family photos?

This is bad. People should be very concern about digital photos in this case, suddenly they can't be veiwed or rescued.

can you upload one of those files somewhere? ********** or whatever (not as an attachment here).

it's not a problem with digital photos it's a problem with everything stored electronical.

File recovery tools to the rescue!

message from ********** site when tried to upload: "Error, No file chose "
They couldn't even detect the faulty photo file.

*note that the recently saved photos works fine in the external harddrive.

email the attached faulty file doesn't work.

ok that explains it already.
a) the file is gone and all is left is the FAT entry pointing to it
b) the file is ok, but the FAT entry is pointing somewhere wrong.

you will need some kind of recovery software to restore the files. it may not work if the lost data was already overwritten.

^ ok, my old External drive (usb) is 100G and my new External drive (usb) is 1TB. I copied and paste all the files from Old External drive to new External drive.

During the copying process, the old drive keep turning off many times, so i keep turning on the old drive many times to completely copied all the files. After that i thought all is good so i format the old drive (big mistake).

I used EasyRecovery Professional noelie gave me but the Recovered Folder for the recovered files are empty. The photo files (faulty) are still there in the original folder.

I think the problem is, no program can read the faulty photo files.

Is there a photo recovery software ? the files are still there.

if the files can not be recovered, that means film images are more stable than digital images.

In this case images must be burnt to dvd discs so that nothing can change the files. Lessons learnt i guess.
