Hotmail on a BlackBerry

I have a BlackBerry Storm 9500 and set up my two email accounts on it on November 14th. I have some problems with Hotmail, however.

For the first four weeks of use, I was receiving Hotmail perfectly on my Storm; getting them instantaneously pushed to my BlackBerry device. Suddenly the emails became less and less reliable, some taking hours or days to be pushed to it (and this is after I've read them on the server also) and most just not arriving at all.

I have tried resending my Service Books, I have tried reactivating the server. I have tried deleting and reinstalling my email account, I have tried resetting the password on my Hotmail. Nothing is working.

Doing some research, apparently Hotmail can be a little temperamental with the BlackBerry, however it seems odd that I was receiving emails perfectly for four weeks or so and then suddenly it stopped; something is playing up. I have also read that older Hotmail accounts do tend to work on BBs; mine is six years old so it should be fine!

After reinstalling my accounts, I sent emails from various accounts to my hotmail and about a third of them were pushed seamlessley to my BlackBerry.

I really don't want to change email addresses: this was my first and only email since I was 14 years old - it would be a bloody hassle to change over. Having said that, can anyone suggest a good email client that's free and works with the BlackBerry? I'm not a fan of Googe Mail's interface to be honest. A list of suggestions would be most welcome. Also does anyone know how to have en email that looks like: firstname@lastname.com

Thanks for all your help.

Also does anyone know how to have en email that looks like: firstname@lastname.com

If you own the domain you can do that with gmail (which you don't like). Or just set up your own mailserver :o In any case - you need to own the domain, or know someone who does.

I have no experience with blackberries, but it seems this is hotmails fault. I used to have a hotmail account for years, too. But after MS took over it became more and more unreliable, the website slower and slower .. and I moved on.

Yeah, I think Hotmail has taken a turn for the worse. I think I may have to look elsewhere for an alternate email address that is free.

Does anyone have suggestions that I should have a look at?

Also, how easy is it to swap email accounts? If I delete my Hotmail account in Outlook and put in a Google Mail account, will all my contacts stay there? Also, what if someone sends an email to my Hotmail which I am not using anymore: can I have that message diverted to my new account whilst also sending them an automatic email telling them of my email address change?

How does one 'Archive' email messages in Outlook. Will that get rid of them on my Hotmail server which is what I want to do, but also keep the messages? Someone from Vodafone help suggested that it may be because I have over 3,000 messages in my Hotmail Inbox which poses a sync problem.

If you have all the messages downloaded in Outlook you should be able to archive them from within there, and afterwards import them to your new account. Many e-mail services offer you to collect mails from other account. So you could setup something on hotmail that a) auto replies to every incoming mail that you are now using your new e-mail service, and tell them your new address and b) forward the mail to your new account. you don't need b) if your new mail provider allows you to pick them up from hotmail.

feature rich free mail accounts can be found at yahoo and gmail. most ISPs offer something to their clients as well, but since you tend to change an ISP more often, i would not use that.

Thanks Corny. But could I archive them in my Outlook and just keep them there and not import them to any new account.

You see, I called 191 Vodafone Help and the guy said it is probably because you have over 3,000 emails in your Hotmail Inbox; they advise keeping them around 500-1000 emails. I set up a new temp Hotmail account on the server and then on my Storm and have been forwarding emails to it and have been receiving 100% of them on my Storm.

However, I don't want to just delete 2,500 emails to find out that wasn't an issue. Is there an option to 'Archive' all my older emails in Outlook which will get rid of them on my Hotmail server (and thus allow emails to be pushed to the Storm) whilst keeping the messages accessible in Outlook?

So I want to delete the messages off my server but keep access to them in my Outlook? So I can reduce my Inbox size to 500-1000 but keep access to the messages that I archive.

I tried highlighting loads of messages and right clicking but I can't find the Archive option. And when I DO archive the messages, where do they go to?

You can archive a whole inbox in outlook iirc. You can also set outlook to delete the message on a server once you downloaded them. however, this most likely will not delete the messages that are already read and on the server.

OK, thank you, so how do I archive my whole Inbox in Outlook IIRC? Also, once I archive it, I can delete all my messages off my Hotmail server and it would still be safe in my Outlook's archive?

My BlackBerry World Edition 8830 just as recent as this past Saturday started having some issues with Hotmail. I have it currently synched to my Outlook (work) and my personal (Hotmail.)

I never had issues until this past weekend. It would be kind of sporadic in sending me emails, or the timing of them was a little "off." Anything that I sent through Outlook was seamless - no lag, no anything.

Unfortunately, I think it's a Hotmail issue. Maybe they upgraded a server or something over the weekend, because I know where you're coming from.

Seriously - BlackBerries are Crackberries!

How do you like the Storm btw? :)
