The plebes climb to the top to replace the Dixie cup which is the cover for a junior naval seaman and replace it with the combination cover to signify their very small baby step towards leadership positions in the Navy.... WE I get ya about the "evolving" being the thing of the month but I honestly think Obama evolved into this opinion whether it was for political expediency or simply realization after discussing the matter in depth with Joe Biden that it should be a human right not a sexual preference only right. Colin could have come to same place and evolved but I see the overwhelming opinion of my compatriots in arms is that gay folks are serving and fighting for your freedom so then what does it matter to you what freedoms they enjoy.

I think it is a critical thing to understand really. One is status quo in an organization that you tolerate to be a part of and to possibly change an organization. The other is a held belief that you are free to espouse. I am very near and dear to it as well. Just think if DOMA falls then there is no obstruction in current policy for my spouse to not receive all benefits that a female spouse would receive if I had one. I tell you from my perspective and the medical issues I face constantly with my SO that benefit would be a blessing.

Plebes (freshman) from class of 2015, scale the Herndon Monument, a 21 foot high grease covered obelisk, to swap a plebe cap for one of a midshipman, at the U.S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, M.d., Tuesday, May 21, 2012. The obelisk is covered with more than 200 pounds of lard, making it difficult to climb. This tradition is designed to illustrate the merits of teamwork. It took roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes for the rising sophomores to complete the challenge, creating a human pyramid that enabled them to replace the plebe Dixie cup head cover which had been taped securely to the obelisk by thoughtful upperclassmen.

The obelisk is coated in lard. Have you ever smelled lard in the warm sun? Depending on what it's made of -- i.e. which animal -- it can overpower any other scent.
