How are all you Aussies down there coping with the heatwave and wildfires?

No thanks - I can still enjoy (Sydney) outdoors in the 30s and 40s by going to the beach and having a cold beer or an ice cream, but there's virtually nothing to do when it's -25 C unless you like ice fishing :D

I saw someone in shorts today (Ok it was more like -18c then) and no there are a lot of things to do in winter. Millions in Canada enjoy winter sports in chilly weather .... but at 40c I would die...that's insane heat IMO.

Actually I would - just so long as I had a full set of quality winter clothing for going out, and that the house was heated well. ..|

I looked up where Waterton Park is - it's the high altitude that causes it to be so cold presumably? I'm imagining a picturesque log-cabin nestled in pine trees high amongst the mountains, with roaming moose and fox and wolves. Sounds really inviting. :D
 
All the temps are shade readings.
If you put a thermometer on the dash of a car in this heat it will go close to 70 C.
The fire danger has been exacerbated by a couple of years of good rain (we have just got over 10yrs of drought), the natural eucalypts have a lot of oil in them and the fire going through them, aided by strong , hot winds, makes them expolsive.
The best advice, get the fuck out of there !
PS don't know where he got the sulphur talk from and no, it has nothing to do with it.
 
Another reason to live in NZ ...I hear it has the best climate...never gets that heat and winters are fairly mild especially north island.
