how can u b gay and a right wing supporter?

Excuse me , but Goldwater was the only one like himself at the time and after. Hillary Clinton was a Goldwater Republican. There was a not another party. The Republican Party is the same as it's always been. Bigoted, stupid, and pointless. I'd rather deal with Libertarians, Green Party members, and Democrats. Republicans are just useless in every way possible. The party doesn't even believe in science.

LOL
Do I see historical ignorance in play? Heck, if Goldwater had been the only one like him at the time, how the heck did he get nominated? No, sire -- that was back when both Republicans and Democrats believed in freedom.
Nor has the GOP "always been" "bigoted, stupid, and pointless". Remember, dude -- Lincoln was a Republican, and had a plan for bringing equality to all... one which didn't get implemented because of one John Wilkes Booth and political corruption among both parties.
"Doesn't believe in science...." But if it's the same as it always was... false, dude. Republicans just care about a different variety of science -- like anything with a military application, for starters.
BTW, if you'd rather deal with Libertarians, well, those are like Goldwater. Just thought you should know.

When you guys are done ranting!! maybe you can get back to the topic of the thread.

The question was can u be gay and a right wing supporter, You don't call all Republicans right wing anymore than you would call all Democrats "left wing radicals". There are plenty of Republicans who aren't part of the right wing.

The way you guys rant, one would think the Democrats lost the last election not won a victory

Big fuckin' deal. Barry Goldwater came out as pro-gay. That's the problem with Conservatives. Until one of YOUR OWN family is affected (I'm looking at you Dick Cheney) you could give a rats ass.
It's called empathy. Most of 'em ain't got it.
Fuck 'em.

And as long as the Conservative movement refuses to treat gay people with dignity don't expect any sympathy on a gay chatboard.
Your fuckin' tax break and need to wave a gun don't mean shit to me if a certain party can't treat a human being with respect first.
Try the Christian Coalition chatboard. They'd love to hear from you.

^That's my point. don't equate all of the Republican party with what you call the Christian right or the right wing.

I don't quite understand it either; I used to talk to someone on my IRC channel (before most of us irritated him enough to leave) who was both gay and right-wing and opposed same-sex marriage (in any definition).

It really seemed like a contradiction in terms to be both.

The Definition of Right and Left Wing are far too flexible to be used in such a concrete statement.

What if a gay person was more concerned with Economic issues than social. I think that you are assuming that everyone values the same things.

Especially in this day in age where gay rights are not in as much danger as they used to be. Not saying that things are great but they are good enough for many to get comfortable.

(*8*)

Like a black cheerleader at a lynching.

Like a Capitalist in a Socialist country.

Like being a Manchurian supporter of Japanese foreign policy.

Like an illegal immigrant at a suburban city council meeting.

:D

How's that for a start? ;)

Now Centex, I appreciate the spirit of it....but surely, as a good Texan, you can do better? I'm picturing something like...

Why, Maltese, if you'd been alive in 1836, you probably would have gotten an award from your boss at the San Antonio General Store for the highest sales of ammunition in a foreign military standard caliber with Spanish-language titling on the boxes.

...a Hapsburg cheering outside of the Janissary recruiting station

Like being a Manchurian supporter of Japanese foreign policy.

Like an illegal immigrant at a suburban city council meeting.

Now that is some witty and erudite stuff! And yes, I did laugh out loud! Thanks both of you!

As my good deed of the day:

And yet, my goodness, a quick search and I find I haven't responded to a Nazi post for eight weeks! I knew I'd been working a lot, but that's just an incredible drought of Nazi references in my life. I'll probably need therapy or something.

The SA, the Brown Shirts, were among Hitler's earliest thugs and were notoriously homosexual under Rohm. Hitler massacred them for political reasons in the Night of the Long Knives. So there is our right wing gay shit with a Nazi theme.

Now for a serious comment (if I can make one):
Sexuality, orientation, is not a political statement.
Some of us like to think it is.
But it is not.

Since each of us as an individual has a different state of comfort with our orientation and each has a different definition of what it means to vote for or against our own interests, and differ on whether voting for/against our own interests is a legitimate way to vote, then we shall run the bell curve on our political understandings in the gay community (if there is such a thing).

That's one of the more hate-filled posts I've seen, and directed at other gays, unless I'm reading wrongly. Or are you talking to people who aren't here?

Why not? That's exactly who (and only who) the Republicans are.

It has been one of the axioms of Karl Rove and GWB that they can govern the nation soley on the basis of support from their base of Christian fundamentalists. They need not accomodate or hear the concerns of any other group in the nation. That is why the Republican platform is so full of hate. The new Republicans just happen to hate everyone the Christian fundamentalists hate.

The new Republican party is that of the Christian fundamentalists. And that is ALL it is. As Kevin Philips (the speech writer for Nixon and Reagan) points out in his book, American Theocracy, the goal of the new Republican Party is nothing short of the establishment of a fundamentalist Christian theocracy in America.

Yes, and all the Democrats are tax-and-spend ultra-left super-regulators who want to run everyone's lives.

Sheesh!

I'd bet that if you checked statistics, not even 1/3 of registered Republicans are Christian fundamentalists.
Yes, those are a larage contingent. Yes, they are very vocal. Yes, they have lots of money. Yes, they're doing a fair job of commandeering the party for their agenda.
But there are sufficient Republicans who are sick and tired of the ReligioPublicans that a columnist recently in U S News speculated the party may break in two.

Your reading it wrong. I signed up for the Christian Coalition Chatboard a couple years back under the screen name, Yura Kunt, and they actually signed me up. So that's what I see whenever I log on and it give's me a larf.
Laughter is good.

It looks like the only thing they are interested in is your money.

:grrr:

You can't be gay and a right-wing supporter. It's an oxymoron. Those who are gay and think they are right-wing supporters are deluding themselves and in my opinion semi-delusional.

You can be a Conservative and support gays. Barry Goldwater was as Conservative as they get, yet he believed in gay rights. Today's Republicans are a perversion of what once was an honorable political party.
Goldwater did not always support gays. He did an about-face when his grandson came out of the closet, and then Goldwater became more and more of an advocate for gay rights. But that was not a right wing thing, it was something Goldwater carried from his private life to the political arena -- and Republicans, as a party, never followed suit.

Cheney would never because the political base is more important. You'd think that with a carpet-muncher as a daughter he'd see the light (as did Goldwater).

^ If there are so many non-Christian fundamenatalist Republicans, why do they keep supporting the hijacking of their party by the same?

The Republicans are the party of the fundamentalist Christians. Period. If there are any moderate Republicans left, they seem to have had their vocal chords cut out. Or maybe some other part of their anatomy.

Right.
And the Democrats are the party of the anti-private property, regulate-everything-in sight, baby killers.

C'mon, dude; get real!

There's a thing called party loyalty. I know some people who would vote Democrat even if it was Satan himself carrying the party's banner. And there are Republicans who are just the same. And according to my mom, Republicans used to be quiet, reserved folks for the most part, and not as strictly organized as these goose-stepping theocrats. Maybe they just aren't as organized yet, maybe they're hoping the theocrats will go away, maybe they just cling to the only thing they believe can beat the Democrats.
Which is just what most posters here would want them to do. I mean, several frequent posters regularly say we should all abandon principle and vote where we think it can win -- right? So all those Republicans who vote along with the theocrats are doing exactly what those frequent posters advocate.
You'd think there would be congratulations being given.

Proves what an unmitigated piece of shit Cheney is. Perfectly suited to be Dubya's number two.

Or you can be a 'log cabin Republican' and issue voter guides telling people you can't support the candidate of your party
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
