How can you tell if someone's gay?

My GAYDAR is unbeatable...you just have to know a whole shitload of gay men (I lived in San Fran) and a whole shitload of straight men (I was in the military) and you get to know what means what. Also, you have to be able to accept what you see and not think "Oh that guy is married, that means he's straight". You're 18...when I was 18 I despaired of ever being able to tell, I thought I would go through life never knowing who was available or not...now I can even tell if a guy is gay or just straight and curious, and everything in between. Practice buddy, practice.

With so many metro-sexuals today how can you tell? This has happened to me several times a stare at a guy sometimes they even smile at me, but later on I see them holding hands or kissing their girlfriends walking around campus.

Here's another question: I have this friend who I'm kind of attracted to. He is so annoying but he someone who I'd wanna be more than friends with. He is always touching my nipples or saying he thinks I'm hot and other not so straight things and he's always so horny. But he does it like a joke, like he's playing around so he confuses me but he does it to some other guys too not a lot but some. I think I've asked if he's gay before but, I think he didn't really answer my question. I don't know what do you guys think. Gay? Or just playful?

I'd say playful, but maybe also curious, hehe .

If he gets offended and punches you below the belt, he's gay.
If he says "Yes, yes, I am gay too" and starts sobbing uncontrollably, he's gay
If he says no dude I'm not gay, he's straight.
If he says "who's asking", he's gay
If he says "why do you ask", he's gay
If he says "(long pause).... no I"m not", he's gay

If you tell him: "I've been told that you're gay. "
if he says "oh..." and shrugs it off, he's gay.
If he's not answering , prompt him by saying "Well, are you ?"
If he says "no I'm not", he's straight.
If he says "Yes I am, you wanna fuck me?" and turns around pointing to his butt, he's straight.
If he says "Yes" and gives you his phone number, he's gay.

TLI (too little info) to tell conclusively.
One way to tell is to invite him to your house or wherever else and then create some tense moments with him -- play back ! Like get him inside and comfortable and stuff then offer him a drink. Come up to him with the drink and stand really REALLY REALLY close to him to the point where it's getting uncomfortable for you, but keep being there. Say "here you go" and just stand there looking at him. It will be hella uncomfortable, but let HIM walk away. You stand there. Repeat with other things a few times over the course of the event.

If he asks you why you're acting that way, talk about how you like him. If he's gay, that will become more and more clear to you. If he's straight, that will become clearer too.

I read one column that suggested going with him to the beach or pool. See if he looks more at girls or at guys esp. if he doesn't think you are watching him. That could give you a hint but of course nothing certain. Straight guys might look at other straight guys' bodies because they are wondering how they measure up to "the competition" for all I know.

Well the other day i was at this party (not gay), crowded and this guy beside kept puhing up on me but made it seem like it was accidental. Then his hand brushed against my crotch. So then i grabbed his dick and he smiled at me and thats how i was able to tell he was gay.

I was at a very straight party yesterday and invited this kid I met recently... since I've met him I've thought he's gay, but dont' really want to come out to him til I know for sure... but we spent a lot of the night just talking away from teh party, and if the whole "eyes tell it all" theory is true, he's def gay. We also talked about clothes for a bit, and what straight guys do that at a straight party? haha. He works at Holister, and I asked him how many Hollister girls he's gotten with, knowing the answer was zero from a mutual friend. He froze up for a second and then said "uh, 2 or 3". I'm not looking to get with him or anything since I have a bf, but he reminds me of myself a few months ago before I started embracing my gay side, lol.

Sometimes it is hit or miss, but you usually don't know for sure until you come out and tell them you are (BTW, best to tell them you are instead of asking them first - and there is a ring of truth in Chrisdobro's post @ 57 above). Straight guys just don't give off those instinctual vibes (you'll know just by talking to them) and by talking to them if you're gut is telling you that the guy is gay, 9 out of 10 times you tend to be right.

I have the same problem mate. No idea who is gay...can never tell unless its obvious (if that makes sense)

Alcohol works really well. I mean if you can get someone intoxicated well enough then you can USUALLY get them to do anything they would be normally apprenshive to. Always ask first though.... Make sure you sign some consent form you have drawn up 'just incase'. Unwanted sexual advances charges are a bitch. Know this guy that got charged with three from the same night. 'Nother story for a different time
