How come the gods we have to believe in, are the plain negation of god?

You know i come across these god threads all the time, and i always have to laugh at some of the lines that come up about how it would be a shame or our end if their wasn't a god, or claims of god's existance backed up by pseudoscience and false evidence. So instead of going on a tirade about why god DOES NOT exist, and never has, and never will, i'll quote my favorite scientist Carl Sagan a few times, and let it go at that.

"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based only in a deep seated need to believe."

"One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. it is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous. (So the old bamboozles tend to persist as the new bamboozles rise.)"

"What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job."

"Anything you don't understand, Mr. Rankin, you attribute to God. God for you is where you sweep away all the mysteries of the world, all the challenges to our intelligence. You simply turn your mind off and say God did it."

"It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

"I don't want to beleive, i want to KNOW."

You still can only seem to concieve of a single kind of God, and proceed to treat all religiosity as if it were the same.

You have beliefs, too. A human cannot function without them. That belief system needn't include God, but it does have to exist for our consciences to work.

The Idea of God leaving a book for mankind to be 'saved' with is, yes, absurd.

It is quite clear that there is no "God Person" out there directing things.

I don't believe any of those things, and still, somehow, I am spritiual and religious. I know that the "God" inside me is really 'just' another aspect of my own nature. I believe that It developed in us for a reason and a purpose, and is not to be ignored.

Open your mind, Leandro. You are only looking at part of the picture.

I think you have no clue what the concept of divinity truly is, especially as it is in the Bible.
Given the sort of world we are in, God has to be hidden, and thus needs to reveal Himself carefully.
"Belief" = trust. Of course God would want us to trust Him -- the other choice is that we should be robots.

And that last is just off-the-wall. Religion is "immoral"?

What world do you live in????

1) I read bible, coran and torah everyday. I can assure you there is absolutely nothing in it and especially nothing about any idea of a god that is in keeping with anything that's not totally absurd. Especially the idea of an hidden god revealing himself only in historical times is totally absurd and an insult to mankind.

2) The immorality of religion is so obvious I am astonished you don't see it. On the basis of the totally illusory notion "believe" "faith" religion divides the world up in believers and non-believers. There is hardly something more immoral.

Is it immoral to look at a sinking ship and observe that some people have made it into the lifeboats and others haven't? Because that's what you're saying!

I still don't see anything absurd about God needing to reveal Himself. If you do, then I have to say that no matter how often you may have run your eyes over the words, you have in fact not read the Bible.
