how did you deal with being in the closet?

I didn't have much inkling that I might be gay until I was twenty, and I didn't decide for myself that I was until right after I graduated from college. (Damnit! Four potential years of experimentation down the drain!) I came out to a couple close friends, and they were extremely cool. I didn't come out to my family immediately - mainly because I was working like a madman, trying to get into a new field, and didn't have any social life at all. And let's face it - there's no difference between a gay guy who's not dating/looking and a straight guy who's not dating/looking. I was sure, but didn't really feel like dealing with the questions just then.

Once I hooked up with a guy, and I felt serious about it, I let them know. And they've been wonderful about it.
