Why not ask him out for lunch? It has the benefit of having an innocent "cover" yet allows you to go after your real motive if he agrees. Just tell him you want to see him off or something.

Have you ever even REALLY talked? Like, does he know your last name? Would he be really surprised if he saw you sent a friend request on Facebook or something? I think it'd be hard and possibly embarassing to pull off anything at this point (based on what you described) but good luck. If he comes back for a longer period of time then just befriend him through work related stuff.

You guys saying "stalk him on facebook" are either:

a. Old
b. Fucking creepy

or

C. Both

people do that and it is weird if you have not met/ have friends in common / talked at least a little bit... Unless you send a message with it explaining yourself. (ie: I'm hitting on you).

I'm surprised no one else is saying "just ask him out"...

^ Well, I didn't say "Stalk him on facebook". I said he should ask if he's on facebook, or ask for an e-mail address. Simply because that would give him a point of contact after his last day.
