How do you get an STD from receiving a BJ?

I've read the threads about blow jobs and condoms. What I'm wondering is, how the heck can you get an STD from just receiving a blow job? I mean, you can't get an STD just from kissing someone can you? Isn't he basically just kissing your dick? Obviously, I'm talking about a healthy penis, without cuts or anything...

If you're wondering why I'm asking, I'm hooking up with a guy who is very much against condoms for oral. I won't blow him without one, but if he wants to blow me without one...I might let him.

Obviously, I'm talking about a healthy penis, without cuts or anything...

And there we have the answer. And sometimes you cannot see small cuts and abrasions, such as those from jacking too hard. *|*

And there are those STDs that do not require blood for transfer. Like Herpes simplex, your common cold sore. He has one on his lip, his lip touches your dick, wham-o. [-X

Oral is a relatively low risk activity. But nothing is without some degree of danger.

Someone correct me or add to me if I am wrong.

Also; without a condom , you are bound to get pre cum in your mouth which can also have an std in it .... and; if he ejaculates in your mouth ... well ... again, you "Can" get a couple of stds .. is it worth the risk for YOU ?

Fuck that article is scary, its obviously condom only for oral sex with a person unknown, the risks are too big, even though a rubber takes away the excitement, no wonder i am worried about sex, ya dont know what people have! What about sex/oral with a paid guy in a brothel, i would hope they would be clean enough to go rubberless with oral but not anal?

Shit makes me wanna stick with the porn, even though its not the best for meeting guys, the real world is too scary!

Like it's been said there are ways.

Herpes is a skin-to-skin tranfering disease.

Virus infected seminal fluid (cum or pre-cum) can pass through the membranes of the gums. Etc. Etc.

But if he's on the sucking end, then beware of any non-blood transfered STI's.

Risk is lower from oral sex, but it's all about how well you know your partner as well and whether or not you feel that you know him well enough to take that risk, which, in the case of a hookup probably isn't strong.

the real world is too scary!

No, it's not. There's all kinds of fun to be had in the real world. And then when it comes to a more intimate physical relationship you can take steps to protect yourself. Don't think that just because there is risk, you shouldn't do it.

As to the original question. It depends on which STI you are referring to. Since you'd be the one getting sucked, it should decrease your risk of getting body fluid transmitted diseases. The only way those would be able to get to you would be through microabrasions or sores in your skin. I'm unsure if they could get in through the mucosal layer of the tip of the urethra... somebody can probably comment on that. But skin to skin diseases would still be fair game... such as herpes.

OMG... this shit scares the crap out of me. Even if I wanted to... I would never be able to bring myself to do this stuff knowing the risks. Jeez... its going to be a lonely life...
No it's not. Mother nature has a way of changing your mind. It would actually be safer, if you used your head to understand the risks and learn to mitigate them rather than put up a wall that will eventually crumble anyways.

life is a risk - for gays for straights for worshipers of the corn god - for everything and anything. there are sensible things to do - many said already. in a committed relation with time and history, partners can agree to trust and do things considered 'unsafe' - although the only thing to rely on is that trust. life is risk. but to go through life without sex is to become sick another way
ding

just make sure that he has a clean mouth and hasnt blown any guy before you... or else, whatever he has in his mouth will get serious on your penis...

Syphilis is so easy to get from a BJ if the mouth isn't clean or whatever... and syphilis will be on your blood forever!!! bwahahaha... just be clean, ayt?

I think you should get your facts straight. Yes, there are STDs you can get from a blowjob, but that doesn't mean you will unless it's the guy's first time giving one.

And syphilis is not in your blood forever if you get it treated. Please don't give out false information.

Yes, oral sex carries STD transmission risk, but honestly it's not the end of the world.

HIV risk is very low for oral sex.

In the case of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia, they're fairly easily treated with antibiotics (even the strains that are resistant to more traditional ones). The important thing is to get checked for these regularly so you can get treated if you've picked one up.

Most sexually active gay men already have one or both of the herpes viruses, but only a small fraction of the population get outbreaks. There's also no test for it unless you're currently breaking out. Fortunately, it's not life threatening.

For Hepatitis A and B, there's a vaccine that every gay man should get if he hasn't already. In many counties, the public health system will even pay the entire cost of getting it.

Does that make any of you feel a bit less scared and more informed?
