  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How do you pay for stuff?

Debit. Whats cash? :-)

I used to work in retail, and checks have become such a pain in the ass that I used to despise people who just couldn't swipe a debit card. Now, many places instantly debit your checking account from the routing and account number on your check, so why bother writing one.

I charge everything I buy! It helps me monitor spending--- and the cash rewards from the credit card company mount up quickly.

No checks, no debit card, and NO BLOODY CREDIT CARDS. I pay cash. All my bills are EFT, so I never even think about those. Everything else, I just pay cash. I've nothing against debit cards except they're sometimes slow in the checkout line. But I'll never have another credit card. Those evil fuckers can just die screaming and alone without my money in their pocket.

I never carry a lot of cash

I charge most all items, but for things under $5.00 I'll pay cash if I have it.

I pay everything with a credit card unless they don't take credit cards or the amount is under 2 dollars. ( I have a rewards credit card, which i have used many of those points in the last few years.)

I rarely carry much over $20. cash....I use a debit card for everything.
I will use a credit card on a major purchase, because it does give some power in case a problem should arise...

I love flashing plastic but unfortunately i don't have any cash on it anymore LOL so i am going through withdrawal now.

You know what really pisses me off, and i am going to use this to bump the hate thread.

I hate it when banks approve things when they know very well you dont have enough money in the account and then charge you an overdraft fee.

What the hell? Why let it go through in the first such a rip off.

Now come on....
It's not the "banks" job to control your spending!!

I know we're all getting off the topic of the thread here but I do agree that gender doesn't matter so much as age and location here.

I disagree. The reason why I started this thread is because I see women -- and only women -- do this. I have never seen a man pay for a cup of coffee using plastic.

Operate a budget.
Cash, or bank card (not credit, except I say credit,
that way the store pays the fee not me).
Monthly, bimonthly, quarterly bills and large items
by check for record keeping.
Shep+
Own no credit card, nor do I intend to do so.

I try to use cash for everything, including rent. But if I don't have enough cash or time to run to the bank, I'll use my debit card. The only thing I write a check for is my electric bill.

I work in retail and many of my friends are baristas. Our experience has been that most people use cards for anything over $5 (the usual limit), unless they've just been paid or are on vacation from Canada, in which case they've just been to the bank for a currency exchange and have a bunch of bills. Regulars in the coffee shops tend to pay with cash, though.

I've noticed that more women write checks than men and I think it has to do with having a purse to keep the checkbook in. But there are several men who always write a check at the bookstore. Usually they carry a bag of some sort with them.
