How do you politely stop social media group members from texting you too much?
I don’t mind someone wanting to send me a few short text messages on social media every now and then, however the trouble I have I run into is, some guys want to text back-and-forth for hours at a time(via the social media platform private message option) .
Then there are guys that send me long personal text (via the social media platform private message option) that may take 5 to 10 minutes to read AND they are waiting on their end for a quick response back (which may take me an additional 5 to 10 minutes to sincerely and honestly write something back to reply back to them). Then they turn around and send another text that may take 5 to 10 minutes to read . . . and this long and lengthy reading and writing text thing just keeps going back and forth with no end in sight.
All of these guys seem like sincere and nice guys, so I don’t won’t to hurt any of their feelings in cases like this. I am sure these guys are lonely and have a great deal of free time on their hands, but I don’t have time to devote to this type of social media text messages. Unfortunately like on Facebook, there is no option to turn your Private Message button off.
So how do I politely tell these types of guys I want to be social media friends, but I don’t want to engage in the habit of exchanging a lot of endless or long text messages? I don’t want to block them, since again . . . all of these guys seem like sincere and nice guys, and they are probably” lonely. Just a few days ago, I ended up texting back-and-forth with a guy for about 30 minutes, then I told him I had to go to work and I would catch back up with him later . . . and he basically quickly responded and said "Fine! No worries!" I am not sure if he was mad with me for my leaving our back-and-forth texting or not, yet I really did have to leave to go to work. As it was, I sat their for 30 minutes texting back-and-forth to him.
Yet I am probably one of the few guys out there that “is not” into a lot of texting with anyone. As it is, I really don’t even text much to my own family and non-social media friends.
Lastly, normally these text messages start when I post something on social media (it can be my original post, or my answering a post in a social media group, then these guys seem to use that as a personal invitation to send me a private message and share their thoughts on my post or on a comment I posted on someone else's post (instead of just adding their thoughts to my post or my comments, so the entire social media group can view it). So when guys send me these private messages, that opens the door to how I end up with these types of guys want to keep texting me. As a rule, I never send members a private message to their post, I will only post my comments on the social media group (to someone's post), so all group members can see my post.
