How do you "talk straight"?

"Talking straight" is an attitude where you pretend to sound stupid.

Unless you are straight, then you don't pretend ..... well most don't pretend.

Also, hide all feelings and emotions. If there is drama [see posts above] then there are gays .... If there is wit, read Lex and others above, there are gays.

However, we are off-subject. I'm not sure what the actual subject is, because:

1 You talk that you might be bi or gay-curious
2 You hate the fact that others make fun of your gay talking
3 You have low or no self-esteem
4 You reject the only real answer - know yourself and like yourself

To be perfectly honest, I think there is a certain cadence to many gay men's speech patterns that stands out and suggests gay. And, I'm not talking about flaming queens. Even gay men who speak in lower registers often have that subtle distinction in their voice. Sure, some of us are undetectable, but many of us aren't. It's just a natural thing that we have to live with.

First of all it's not all gay guys. some are completely undetectable.

but for a lot there's just this little something. and frankly there aren't that many totally straight guys who have that fem edge. they can say there straight but 5 years later you find out they're gagging on cock.

so sorry, but any guy who's kinda fem is gonna be kinda gay, at least in my experience.

oh yeah, and gay guys tend to have a voice that gives them away. again NOT ALL GAYS, some it's like you fooled me..

I agree with you. I'm not into that PC shit and saying that most gay men are undetectable because in my experience it just isn't true. Yeah there are some gay men you just absolutely would never even think were gay, but they tend to not be the norm. I know a lot of gay men don't want to admit that, but come on. Most gay men aren't flamers, but come. Gay men tend to be more like Neil Patrick Harris than Mark Wahlberg...or RuPaul.

I don't even know about bi men. Sometimes it's just hard to tell between them and gay men who don't want to admit they're fully gay. Or just think they get brownie points for saying they like pussy or something. I saw some study not too long ago that showed the physiological responses of self-described bisexual men when seeing both men and women engaged in sex. Every one of the bi men showed the most arousal by far when watching the men. Of course, for some reason the women in the study seemed turned on by everything, even watching two men got at each other.

If you two are right, then you're right. Certainly, there are gay men who could not have fooled women, girlfriends or wives, if there were something that gave them away. It's not a matter of being PC, it's a matter of the fact that you're (plural you) trying to take your personal experience and determine that it is a fact.

In addition, you are stating that the obvious examples are how the majority behave, according to whatever your criteria is. I do not know you Rain, but if you consider yourself masculine, then how much do you want to bet that someone has his or her own scale and thinks of you as a completely feminine? Yep, that's how it works.

There are people who probably took something that you've done, consciously or unconsciously, and thought you were gay based on some rigid, yet feeble idea of what could make a person gay. By no means am I discrediting personal experiences; however, be realistic as well. Your personal experience makes up how much of the personal experiences on this Earth?

As far as the study, I would love to see how it was conducted, who conducted it, and why (as there is always a reason) it was conducted.

It was about how gay males have brains that are more similar to female brains (when you actually cut open the head and look at it) They gave people cat scans and when gay people were exposed to naked females nothing, when exposed to males it was like a christmas tree. Nothing was really consistent with the females though and I don't remember if it said anything about bisexual males.

Here is one study I found just doing a quick google, it's in a blog but he summarizes it pretty well. It says usually bisexuals are more attracted to one sex over the other, but we already knew that from the bisexual/straight forum.

Yeah, I've seen that study in the link before. The methods used to conduct the study are very questionable; the credibility of the study is diminished for a few reasons.

My issue with studies like the one you mentioned before is that they often seek to separate gay and/or bisexual men from heterosexual men, in most cases. In addition, the methods that are used to conduct the studies often detract from the credibility. Third, there's often some sort of underlying agenda, besides studying for the sake of information.

This thread is interesting. I agree with Babigaypimp. Even masc gay guys 8 times out of 10 speak in a certain way or just have some kind of behavior that's detectable.

I also think once gay guys who are closeted come out and hang around gay clubs and stuff they might act different and for lack of better term "act more gay".

As for the thread starter, I know it's hard to grasp but you really do just need to say "fuck everyone" else and be yourself.

If you want to sound more manly, don't worry so much about how you sound. Just be more laid back but it's really mostly mental. If you THINK you sound girly you will sound girly. If you think of yourself more manly the manliness will come out.

You really have to be born that way. You can try speech therapy and might "butch up" your voice a notch or two, but discerning ears will still be able to tell the difference. Might be a nice summer project if you have some free time on your hands. And you can lift weights too.

Very true..I have straight friends who have deep voices, but thier mannerisms make them come off as little b*&%$es. I've actually had to fight for two of friends who started crap cause of thier whining.

Eh, that can happen to anyone who is immersed within a specific culture or subculture. At some point, that person tends to pick up mannerisms, speech patterns, etc. of their peers, consciously or subconsciously.

To the OP. If you have a higher pitched voice you were probably genetically destined to have said voice. What you do with it is up to you.

If you hang around bitchy girls all the time, as I did in high school, you Will pick up their mannerism and the general way they talk. In men this would be considered 'talking gay'

Your remedy to this problem would be to notice the 'gay sway' in you voice as you are talking and consciously changing it. I.e. you know whenever you say Alabama it always comes off gay because of (insert reason here). Your gal pals and prolly even some of you guy friends should be more than happy to help point out all the subtleties you've picked up over the years. Once the general pattern in how you talk now, you can change it.

The other way would be to stop hanging out with girls quite as often, and find some people that talk the way you want to sound. Be quite and reserved for the first bit and just listen to the way the talk. Over time you will subconsciously pick up on their mannerisms and way of talk. And wha la no more 'gay talk'

I think this may be accurate. A little differnt way of seeing this I have a str8 friend who does sound kind of gay but, I think it may because of his accent. I was playing xbox live with him once and just from the sound of his voice someone recognized he was an Arabic speaker so, I think some cultures can produce different speech patterns.

For me I am not that talkative and when I speak my voice is very low but, if high speak more it can become higher and maybe a gay guy could detect that but, no one has mentioned it to me before.
