How Gays Can Save The Republican Party

Perhaps 12% more gay people supposedly voted republican this time than last merely because gay people who voted blue last time felt dispassioned to vote again. Not that they turned away from democrats to vote for republicans but merely their disallusionment had them sitting on the fence.

Besides the argument like the title appears laughable.

What its suggesting is that if gays infiltrate the republican party then over a period of time, fewer of their members will feel inclined to be vocally homophobic. Which would make the party seem less discriminatory.

But what if they didn't and continued to make the reds appear prejudice and over time as society moves on from its moral wrongs more kids growing up into voters see them as merely the discrimination party.
So eventually they'll have less support and less power to filibuster etc.

"The true fundamental core of the Republican Party is fiscal conservatism and limited federal government, not so-called Christian “values.”

*puke*

What's with you posting Republican propaganda lately?

I honestly think that we need to get more Republicans to strongly support us. We should seek support where ever we can find it.

I have straight friends that are Republicans that strongly support equal rights. They will not vote for any politician that does not support equal rights, no matter what party.

Hell, even most gay Republican voters don't have that kind of respect for equality. That's why LCR were pimping Mark Kirk.

Well Kirk did vote for DADT repeal.

So it seems he is not totally opposed to equality after all.

The repugnicants have become nothing more than obstructionists......their quiet racist positions are disgusting. John Boehner can cry until his tanning bed tan melts away and he will still be nothing more than a big-mouthed, dollar-grubbing, pile of human excrement. Ohio deserves that clod....

Can you tell me who the chairman of the Republican National Committee is?

As for quiet racism, here's a nice example:

I can tell you that the repugnicants have been trying to remove his stupid ass for six months or more....

All of them? Why is he still there, then? And those who want him gone, their sole reason must be based on race, right?

Oh, here's some more quiet racism:

No question but that there are plenty of racist Democrats. But, neither of those clips you have posted are examples of such.

Biden's remark about Indians in convenience stores is right on. Acknowledging that fact is no more racist than is Fox for featuring the character Apu on The Simpsons. Biden was not complaining about the fact or being derogatory. (I have actually myself asked Indians why so many of them run convenience stores and the answer is always the same. "I don't know." But I don't think I'm being racist by asking.)

And Harry Reid's comments are also right on. Obama would not be electable if he had been darker skinned or possessed of some regional accent. Twenty years ago, Reid could have said "Obama is not electable because he's black" and he would have been equally correct, and similarly unprejudiced.

Acknowledging truths is not necessarily politically correct, but it is not racism. In fact, the inability to discuss facts like these is itself a subtle kind of racism, analogous to looking away from people in wheelchairs as if they didn't exist.

The Republican Party picked Steele because he is black not because he was qualified or had any idea what he was doing. They wanted to try to appear like they were with the times.

Why did it take Obama being elected for the RNC to elevate one of their black members?

To put it bluntly, if you see states where there is a push to put a ban on gay marriage/civil unions on the ballot, pushes to fight repeal of DOMA and DADT and anything that has to do with keeping the GLBT community as second class citizens...more often than not you're going to see an R next to the name of the party trying to push it.

I have no intrest in trying to "save" a party that for the most part treats us like scum and in many cases, wishes we would simply die.

What the article means by "Save" does not mean that the Republican party will just go away if we do nothing. They are in our political system and will continue to be. If you read the article, you would see that the author means that he thinks that gays can help move the party to go back into believing that the government should stay out of the private lives of people....minimal government intervention. The Religious Right has been pushing the party into interfering more in peoples lives, which historically is not a conservative view.

Oh God. What an awful thought. Voting for the right. It's an interesting article for the "what if?" book but would never actually pan out. Gays could never muster up the electoral majority to take over the Republican Party. We would only be putting our executioner on a throne!

Why on earth would I want to save a party that flagrantly disregards my civil rights?

Governor Susana Martinez, the new Republican Governor here, made it a point to discuss same-sex marriage in an interview yesterday on the evening news. Martinez said she "won't budge" on the issue, and would veto any legislation--were it to make it to her desk--regardless of how it was voted through. So...fuck her.

It seems like, lately, all of the Gay Republicans are coming out and saying that the Republican Party isn't so bad, that they don't all hate us, but all I see is evidence to the contrary--at least with those Republicans in positions of power or influence. I just don't understand Gay Republicans, nor do I care to.

They're not truths, they're stereotypes. Buying into racial stereotypes and perpetuating them is racist. Not loud, blatant racism such as screaming racial slurs, but racist nonetheless.

That is preposterous. They're all racist, but they're willing to overlook that to appear to be with the times? Okay.

Did Bush appoint Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, and Alberto Gonzales for appearances, as well? I seem to recall a big push for Colin Powell to make a presidential bid too, which he declined. Bobby Jindal and Marco Rubio are both being encouraged to run in 2012.

I guess no Republicans voted to repeal DADT?
