How healthy is cottage cheese?

I buy and eat a lot of fat free cottage cheese. Since there is no fat, there is slightly more sugar than regular cottage cheese.

Is it very healthy to eat? Is there any catch or something bad with eating too much? It has a lot of protien and no fat.
 
Sugar is fat.

I'm just eating a slice of bread with cottage cheese. It's not fat free though, why does it have to be anyway, normal cottage cheese already has nearly no fat and is used in diets.
 
It used to be a huge component in weight loss diets 30-50 years ago.

I rarely touch dairy, don't think it's all that healthy.

Can't say that there's much damaging about it, though.....

P.S. Wouldn't organic yogurt be a better choice?
 
So skim milk and cottage cheese should be avoided? Skim milk has just as much sugar as regular milk, which is a lot.
 
It has a lot of sodium.

I don't really eat it cuz it doesn't taste like anything on it's own.

I like to put it in lasagna with a thick bechemel, which kinda defeats the purpose, but it's really good.

Of course I am a cheese advocate coming from Wisconsin, but cottage cheese is fine in moderation, and actually a good source of protein.
 
Any food, too much is not good.

Variety is best. But i didn't do what i preach ...!oops!

You should have between 1200mg and 2400mg sodium per day. Stay on the low end unless you're working out/sweating a lot that day.

whats the obsession with having low/no fat stuff.. You need a mixture of fat/protein/carbs... Eating fat wont make you fat
 
You will usually get your required daily fat even when trying to avoid it all together.

I stopped eating peanut butter, fast food (except subway) and fried food.

the fat in pb is good monounsaturated fat and its got protein.

you need something like 25+% fat, imo 30%

Fat gives flavour. When the fat is removed, it is usually replaced by sodium more sodium.

Your body requires both, but not too much of one of them. A lot of 'healthy' foods are made unhealthy by overdoses of sodium.

My suggestion? Compare labels and different brands and strike a happy medium.
 
Your body needs fat to burn fat and make muscle. "Fat Free" isn't actually very good for you.

The "Fat Free" fads of the 90s gave us "Snackwells" which were "fat free cookies" that were so full of sugar and sodium that they were much worse than having a plain old cookie.

But they sold well. Which made food makers make their own "90% Fat Free" products that were low in fat, high in sugar and sodium and other crap. Remember McDonald's "McLean Burger?" They lead to obesity. Most diet foods do.

You're much better than to just do what everyone knows is best... Eat sensibly. ORganic foods, smaller portions more often, avoid sugar and high-sodium or high-fat foods. Eliminate High Fructose Corn Syrup and any kind of Trans Fat.
