  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How long after you've had sex

I would hope you would know better, but since you didn't...you can get immediate testing done by your doctor, but it will cost you.

Stop being so judgmental people.

TalkinToTheRain, I don't know sorry :) Wish I could help

If you go immediately to the Doc there are meds he can give you if you have engaged in some thing unsafe (stupid) there is a 48 hours window I believe.

Meh... we all make stupid mistakes. The honest answer to the question is to get to a clinic as soon as possible. You might be able to stave off infection with a rigorous dose of anti-viral drugs.

Much more helpful and less judgmental ;):=D:

& TalkinToTheRain, ah there is no point in worrying over/regretting it, just fix the issue ;)

I've been told that it could take up to six months for HIV to be detected in the body.

There's PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), which is a hefty dose of anti-retrovirals. However, you need to start treatment within 72 hours after exposure. They're no fun to take, but they may help. So get to a doctor now!

HIV will normally show up three months after infection, but it can take up to six months (I was told this less than a month ago), so get tested at both points. According to Wikipedia, "in certain cases PEP has been known to slow the development of antibodies by beyond 12 months." But check that with a professional.

I've been told this before too. Jason maybe you use some advanced testing equipment for your workers since they're in porn but at the free clinic this is what they tell us.

Indeed. Though I have to add that I read *somewhere* that there is an immediate-exposure test. However, that does give off false positives IIRC. (my apologies for being so vague) In addition, "studies show that detection of the virus cannot occur until at least one or two weeks after initiation of the infection process." (NYT letter to the editor) So it's still a good idea to get tested after three and six months.

There's a test that can show the presence of HIV after a couple days but it's not 100%, a negative result doesn't mean you don't have HIV. Basically you should get tested immediately, in three months, 6 months and 1 year. And you should also let anyone you sleep with until all the tests come back negative that there's a chance you could have HIV.

Sort of off-topic, but this thread made me realise there aren't any high-profile, openly HIV-positive guys here anymore. Kind of unusual for a gay internet forum, don't you think?

Or am I just not paying close enough attention?

You need your head examined if you did it with someone you don't know.

It doesn't make much of a difference if you know them or not. A lot of people get STDs from someone they know.

Anywho, I'm worried about talkintotherain, this isn't his first STD scare.

Possibly relevant: when was your friend's last test, and when did he last have sex before you? You can't get HIV from someone who doesn't have it,* so his tests are useful (not conclusive) information on your condition.

Of course, someone hot enough to get to have sex with someone as hot as YOU is probably having a lot of sex. If he's barebacking on a regular basis, he probably gets tested regularly (or if not the more fool he).

Please realize that this isn't an alternative to getting tested yourself; only supportive information to keep you from spending a year in panic mode. If you KNOW he's poz--well you wouldn't have let him bareback you, but it's still not a guarantee you'll get infected.
____
*For example, I've tested negative more than a year since the last time I had sex (and safe(r) sex at that), so I have a high degree of confidence that I remain negative. No matter how many times I cum in someone's ass (the same someone), he won't get HIV from ME. Needless to say, taking guys' word for it is not recommended; some guys are dogs.

You cant help someone when the stupid thing they did was done. You cant unring a bell.

For someone to actualy knowing take the chance to have unprotected sex with someone they dont know any thing about is shear stupidity.

How can someone value there own life and others if they have sex with them over the "thrill of trying it" because know he has to be so carefull with who he has sex with for next 3-6-9 months to amke sure he is clean.. have fun doing solo j/o....

god forbid he catches some thing I hope he does not.
I wish him luck and pray he does not do this again.

but you cant help stupid..

just think it takes only ONE TIME to catch this---1.
so why in the world would someone risk it--why.

Should you wait to go get tested for HIV? Like immediately, or wait a couple of weeks or what? Especially if you've had...well...an anal creampie? !oops!

I thought you were against any kind of anal sex? If a creampie is what I think it is, that is pretty extreme anal sex, right?

The deed is done, what lesson-for-a-lifetime do you take away from this?

See your healthcare provider NOW.

I'm not denying it was a silly thing to do, however, judging him wont make the situation any better.

And sorry, I don't agree with "You cant help someone when the stupid thing they did was done. "

Giving him the information desired would be helpful, instead of leaving bitchy comments.

I do agree with the majority of your points though :)
