GOD help me.

I *dread* the entire experience.

I KNOW I have a cavity (at least one, maybe more) seeing as I can't
chew on the left side of my mouth. (Well, it's not THAT bad) Well yeah,
it kinda is....

But, bottom line my HMO doesn't cover dental, so I'm in for some mind-numbing pain, and about 5 grand or so, I suspect, in bills...

Then again, I've just discovered this concept called 'sedation dentistry'...
Which is just a fancy way of saying 'We'll knock you out cold before we drill the hell out of your teeth". Which really is OK with me. (Provided Keith is there to pick me up and give me a ride home...)

Has anyone else here has this sort of procedure ?

Thoughts?

Every two months. That's the Law.

My dentist happens to be a genuinely nice guy, with mediocre looks, if that matters.

A little spray here and a little wand there and we are out of any pain actually.

So, everything is in an absolutely perfect order.

Why? I like it that way. I like perfect teeth and a good breath. (Sue me(!) (!) (!) )

A small cavity can show up ever so often, no matter how much you care. So, a small, painless, plastic filling for $150.00 takes care of it. Leave that monster to itself and you are possibly looking into big $$$ two years later. Plus some pain, discomfort, loss of hours at work, etc.

So, do it and do it now.

Hmmm...Has to be three months by now.

I do not have a perfect smile, but its not my fault!

I got botched oral surgery when I was younger, and the idiot doctor ended up scraping off a lot of enamle off my teeth, spacing them apart to far, and widdling them down...

The last hygenist who saw them said I have the smallest teeth she's ever seen.

If I ever find that doc, his balls + car battery + jumper cables = payback

I went a couple of weeks a go. Had three visits in all and came out with a bill for over £500 (circa $1000). A $5000 bill sounds very expensive to me. You must be in for a hell of a lot of work for that price.

Dental and medical care in the States is unfortunately a lot more expensive than in many other countries. Last time I went to the dentist, it was something like $350 just to get my teeth examined, x-rayed and cleaned. I probably only saw the actual dentist (as opposed to the hygenist) for 10 minutes too.

That said, it's the type of thing that will only get more expensive the longer Joshua_Me waits.

I went to have a filling done in Feb. My took broke off a lump by itself. Kinda scary when it happened. The drilling aint so bad. The fella before me was in a right state as he entered, and when he left he was visibly relieved.

I just went two weeks ago. Was in and out in two minutes, got a €32 ($40) bill a few days later.

Sedatives over here are still administered by sticking a needle in your gums. I don't really mind though - the prick is minimal and it saves some discomfort during the actual drilling.

Four weeks ago (here dental examination is for free in September). The usual good condition, just the yearly cleaning, 30 €.

Hey Josh, there's a place in Sydney that's just right for you, mate! .....

As for me, I go at least twice a year. These days I've got more bloody amalgam than enamel in my mouth .... and have contributed significantly to the wealthy lifestyle my dentist enjoys!

I'm going for my regular 3-month check-up/cleaning in 10 hours. That said, it comes to a cost of $32-ish dollars (Canadian).

It seems like dentist fees are like escorting fees in that they amount to the same all over the Westernized world.

Last time I saw a dentist was in June. All that was required was a scrape and polish. I have never had any major work done on my teeth, not even a filling. I was due back in his chair in February however as I will be going home to Thailand in March, I will leave it until then.

Teeth are an obsession with Thais - you go to a supermarket in The Land of Smiles and there are usually two whole rows dedicated to dental care products. Dentists are very good and the costs are low compared to western countries.

I noticed on a travel website a few weeks ago that a trip to the dentist was included in a couple of tours to Phuket. I know of a couple of guys who have had extensive dental work done in Thailand by a US certified Thai dentist. The airfare, two weeks accommodation, expenses and the dental work came to roughly the same amount as the dental work would have cost in Australia.

It's been about a month - last regular cleaning was at the end of September.
