How long to get tax refund?

Gonna take forever and the IRS is run by squirrels so incompetence will compound operational issues and so I'm estimating maybe by 2025. Thats why I be hookin, tax exempt income is much easier math.

Since the IRS started accepting 2021 tax forms on Monday, 24 January 2022, the IRS is asking anyone expecting a refund to give at least 21 days, if you file electronically and use Direct Deposit as the payment option. With all the changes in jobless benefits and the effects of COVID on staffing, the IRS predicts some tax returns will take longer than average to process.

Thanks.

I truly hope that for anyone needing their refund fast, the IRS will exceed their estimated turnaround times.
Not that long ago there was a time when anyone using e-file would get their refund the same week they filed.

About four months ago my accountant informed me that I would be receiving about a 30,000 refund from the feds and about 10,000 from the state, which was a welcome surprise. I have, however, yet to receive a cent. My partner has been waiting longer for about 20,000. In the meantime I am again paying thousands in estimated taxes.

^^That sounds like what I read a few days ago.

Isn't everything automated these days? If you file online, I'd expect any repayment to be almost immediate unless the system flags up the need for some sort of intervention.

There has been delays in the UK. I understand some HMRC staff were temporarily transferred to DWP to deal with furlough claims.

Wow - you asked on January 25th, so let's call this 5 weeks later.
Good to hear you received your refund, but it did take longer than I was expecting.

Anybody else still baffled why this process takes so long after tech advancements have made virtually everything instant? Information is shared at lightning speed but plugging in a few numbers and issuing a check or debit payment takes weeks and months? Are they using a single 1995 Dell computer to process all returns?

I didn't work last year and I'm glad I don't have to file because this would piss me off.

The IRS site said the first refunds should be sent out on the 24th. I got mine on the 22nd so I feel lucky.
